“Dr. Wes?”
“Mmm-hmm.”
“We have to stop.”
“Are you sure? I don’t think we have to.”
“This is more than a hug.”
“I know.”
“We said we would resist temptation,” I remind him. “This doesn’t feel like resisting.”
“Right now, I really want to give in to temptation.”
“I understand, and I feel the same, but we agreed. You aren’t a cheater, and I’m not the other woman.”
He groans and loosens his grip on me, not fully letting me go. “I’m really not feeling driven to be a stand-up guy right now. I want to pick you up and carry you to your bedroom, toss you on the bed, and––”
I interrupt with, “Believe me. I’d like nothing more, but we can’t do that.”
Not yet.
He shifts from one foot to the other. “Well, this is a painful lesson to learn, but it puts my mind at ease about the physical part of our relationship. I’m definitely not going to have a problem bedding you.”
I laugh to myself because Frank used to tell Augustina that he was going to bed her.
“I’m not worried about the physical aspects of this relationship.”
“Let’s try saying goodbye again but in a less dangerous manner.” He offers his hand. “Good night, Miss Beaumont.”
I take his hand in mine. “Good night, Dr. Wes.”
“Until tomorrow evening.”
“Yes, until tomorrow evening.”

Caroline Beaumont
New Orleans,Louisiana
Present Day
Coco is an excellent cook,so of course she’s the one I turn to for advice on choosing the first meal I’ll cook for Dr. Wes. Together, we decide on Cajun chicken pasta. It’s fast, easy, and there isn’t a ton of prep work or cleanup involved.
Plus, Frank loved chicken and pasta.
I’ll be the first to say that I’m not well experienced in the kitchen, but no one can call me a bad cook. Sure, I’ve lived on my own for several years, but I’m often too busy with work to devote time to cooking. I admit that I use food delivery services more often than I should.
Dinner is ready when Dr. Wes rings the bell and I dash to the front door, eager to see him. I missed him today.
“Hello there.”
“Hello.”
I lean against the door, admiring how handsome my soul mate is. Boy, did I get lucky. Again.
