But if she’s an idiot, I’m okay with that. Her jeans are plastered darkly to her thick thighs and legs and she’s got these tiny boots on that look like they’re not even half my size. She’s wearing a flannel shirt that’s stuck to her like wrapping paper and shows off all of her curves. Big breasts, dipped-in waist and all.
She sees me standing there where she’s balancing on a rock and swinging a stick at something and it’s all I can do not to let my jaw drop to the ground.
“Can you do something about this?” She hollers and I shake my head, dazed.
Glancing down, I see a little puppy yapping and jumping at her and I smirk. “Is it yours?”
She shoots me a glare, taking off the glasses and squinting at me. “Would I be standing on this if that was my dog?”
Cocking my head and crossing my arms, I grin. “I don’t honestly know. Women are a mystery to me. And not one I usually want to read.”
“Humph! Why does that not surprise me? A little help here!” She hollers as the little pup keeps jumping up at her.
I stalk up and catch the little bugger as he attempts to get to her yet again. He grunts and then wiggles ecstatically, jumpingall over me and licking me until I feel like he’s washed off most of the rain water.
“Why exactly are you trying to avoid this little guy? He seems friendly.”
“Too friendly. He’s been following me since he caught me with my pants down going to the bathroom and wouldn’t leave.”
I study the little guy and smirk at his grin. “I don’t blame you,” I whisper to him, watching the little minx climb down off the rock.
“What did you say?”
“Nothing. Are you Lizzie Montgomery?”
She nods, sniffling. “Yeah. I am. Who are you?”
“Emile. The Bed and Breakfast sent me to find you.” I glance up at the sky and then down to the washed-out trail. “I’d like to get out of here but I have a feeling that it’s all washed-out down the trail and we’re stuck until the rain stops and it dries out a little.”
She pales. “Shoot.”
I almost smile yet again. I don’t know any adults that say shoot. It’s a little cute and adorable and I don’t fucking like cute and adorable. Except apparently on her.
“Yeah. Let’s go up a little bit. I’ve got a little shack that I use up the mountain when I’m out hunting and I get stuck.”
“Does it have a fire?” She cocks her head and I see her eyes are a pure hazel color, green and gold and brown all mixed up together. Like a shimmery crystal.
“It does.”
“Lead on. I desperately need to get warm.”
“You and me both,” I whisper, but I’m thinking about wrapping her around me and then fucking her into a bearskin rug.
Swearing under my breath, I push that thought out of my head. She’s taken. Get over it.
And you don’t want a damn woman. Right?
I’m just not sure my body’s getting the same memo my brain is.
But it better. Because I don’t need the hassle that any woman…let alone this one will bring me.
CHAPTER 5
Lizzie
He opens the door for me and waves me in in front of him. I slip past him and take a deep breath when I pass by, feeling his body brush mine even through our clothes. I suck in a sharp breath as we pass, feeling lightheaded when I breathe in. I can smell him and it’s like the wild outdoors and man all rolled into one. For some reason, my whole body starts to throb and I stop in the doorway, staring up into his eyes, shocked beyond belief.
I don’t want a man. I remember saying that. My body has been basically frozen since I found that asshole in bed with his girlfriend, mistress or whatever the hell you want to call her.
