“You absolutely won’t be,” Helen said.

“Then, yes, I would love to have lunch with you,” Emma said.

“Excellent.” Helen smiled happily before slipping her hand around Lucas’s arm. “Honey, lead the way to this Nan’s. Last night, Connor texted me a picture of the biggest waffle I’ve ever seen and told me I needed to order it today when I met you for lunch.”

Lucas laughed. “Connor is obsessed with the waffles. But Emma and I recommend the burger. Right?”

“Burger is definitely the way to go,” Emma said. “Nan’s got the best burgers in Harmony Falls.”

She grabbed her jacket from under the counter and slipped into it before following Lucas and his mother out of the store.

Lucas grinned at her as they headed toward the diner, the sun setting off the green flecks in his eyes and highlighting how thick and soft his hair looked. Emma’s stomach did that stupid swoony thing it did every time she thought about what it would be like to bury her hands in Lucas’s hair. To pull him close and have those perfect lips touch hers, feel his tongue slip into her mouth and -

Emma! Get it the fuck together. Fantasizing about Lucas while having lunch with him and his mother makes you the fucking worst.

She pushed all thoughts of kissing Lucas out of her head. Christ, she really was losing it.

CHAPTER7

“To your left, Wyatt!” Emma shouted, her body practically vibrating in her gaming chair.

She crowed with delight when Wyatt shot the zombie in the head, and Lucas couldn’t help but grin at her excitement. He shifted in the kitchen chair he’d dragged into Emma’s small living room, his ass numb and his legs falling asleep. He stared with real longing at Emma’s gaming chair. He’d sat in it only once before, but it was sinfully comfortable and top-of-the-line in gaming chairs.

He’d love to sit in it again, preferably with Emma on his lap.

Straddling him.

Naked.

While he fucked her into a coma.

“Lucas, what the fuck, man?” Jesse’s indignant voice echoed in his headset. “There’s a zombie on my fucking back!”

He pulled himself out of his Emma fantasy and quickly shot the zombie, watching its head explode as Jesse grunted with annoyance. “Get your head in the game, dude.”

“Sorry,” he said.

“I’m heading into the barn,” Nathan said. “Emma, you with me?”

“Yes.” She leaned forward, her face bathed in the glow from the flat screen. “Wyatt and Lucas, watch the road for the horde that showed up last time. Jesse, keep an eye on the field.”

They all did exactly what she asked, and Lucas’s jeans grew uncomfortably tight. Something about Emma taking control of the group during gameplay always turned him the fuck on. It made sense that she was the leader of their group. She was the best in their group of gamers and held the state record for the highest score in Shadow Dragons, the companion game to the current game they played, Shadow Zombies. And it was highly likely she’d also end up with the highest score record for Shadow Zombies.

He shifted in the chair again, trying to ease some feeling back into his ass. He didn’t have a gaming chair as nice as Emma’s, but the chair he had was a fuck of a lot more comfortable than this one.

Then maybe stay at home to play, you idiot.

He should. There was no point in being at Emma’s house when he could connect via a headset like everyone else, but it was a convenient excuse to be around her. Of course, he left her house every time with a bruised ass and a raging woodie, but it was fucking worth it. Watching Emma play, and her intensity and competitiveness were addicting. He went home every Friday night, his cock aching and his balls blue as a fucking smurf, and jerked off until he couldn’t see straight.

Wyatt and Emma’s game characters emerged from the barn, both bloody and splattered with zombie guts.

“Barn is clear,” Wyatt said.

“Nice,” Nathan said. “We just need to clear the farmhouse, which will push us to the next level.”

“It’ll have to wait until next Friday,” Emma said. “I have plans and need to go.”

“What could be more important than this?” Jesse asked.
