Nathan laughed. “Done.”
“Sweet,” Rayna said. “Okay, we’ve got six minutes to go. I’m going to get everyone into their assigned places. Harper, you still good to act as relief for people when they need a break?”
“Yes,” Harper said.
“Awesome.” Rayna headed toward Laila and Wren, and Nathan smiled at Harper.
“Thank you for asking Kira and Grace to help today.”
“They were happy to help,” she said. “Addie wanted to come too, but they got home late from New Cassel yesterday, and it was a difficult day.”
“Did they get Daniel settled in okay at the rehab place?” Nathan asked.
“Yes, but it was tough, and Addie sounded so drained last night, I told her to stay home and rest up today.”
“Areyouokay?” Nathan asked.
“Fine,” she said.
“You don’t seem fine,” he said.
She cupped her elbows, a little unnerved by how he could see right through her. “I’m worried for Daniel that he won’t stick with it. He’s like a brother to me, and I care about him a lot. I want him to get well.”
“I think he will. From the sounds of it, he knows he needs help now, right?” Nathan said.
“Yes. I just… worry.”
“That’s natural,” he said. “You care deeply about your friends, and that’s an incredibly admirable quality.”
Pleased and a little embarrassed by the praise, she changed the subject. “I love that Rayna shook you down for some dog neuters. That’s some savvy work right there.”
“Don’t tell her this, but I would have given her five free dog neuters,” Nathan said.
She laughed, and Nathan smiled at her. “So, Rayna got dog neuters. What do you want from me in return for today?”
Her gaze dropped to his mouth, and, dammit, why did she immediately have to make his innocent question so dirty? Why did she have to stop herself from demanding he join her in her bed, demanding he bury his face between her legs and -
“Harper, stop that,” Nathan said.
She blinked and glanced up at him. “What?”
“You think I can’t tell what you’re thinking?” he said. “Christ, you’re giving me a boner over here.”
She stared at his crotch, and he muttered a curse. “For the love of God, don’t stare at it. You’re only making it worse.”
She started to giggle, “Hey, it’s not my fault you’re a pervert. I was thinking that you could thank me with a Walgreens gift card.”
“Bullshit,” he said.
She giggled again, the sound dying in her throat when he stepped so close to her, she could feel the heat of his body and see the flash of desire in his dark brown eyes. His gaze on her mouth now, he said, “Tell me what you were actually thinking, Harper.”
“It won’t help the boner situation,” she said.
“Now I have to know. Tell me.”
She pitched her voice low. “I was just thinking about how much I want your face between my legs and -”
“Nathan?” Grace joined them. “I can already tell we won’t have enough coffee to hand out. If you give me the okay, I’ll head over to Walmart and pick up some more.”
