“Hi, Preacher.”
“Honey, what do you think of Harper’s hair?” Addie said.
Preacher studied her for about thirty seconds. “Looks good.” He brushed his mouth against Addison’s. “I have a piece I want to work on for a client. I’ll be in the bedroom until it’s time to head over to Kira and Connor’s.”
“Sounds good.” Addison smiled at him and patted his butt as he turned to walk away.
He grinned and winked at her before leaving the room.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come over without more than a five-minute text warning,” Harper said.
“Don’t be silly,” Addison said. “You’re welcome to come over whenever you want.”
“Please, you’re in a new relationship and wanting to bang all the time,” Harper said. “It might have been a while since I’ve had a boyfriend, but I still remember what it’s like the first few months.”
“Preacher and I already had sex twice this morning,” Addison said primly. “So, I’m good until at least after dinner.”
Harper laughed and sank onto the couch. “Good for you, honey.”
Addison joined her on the couch. “Sometimes I still worry that I’m a sex addict, but I think a part of it is just my surprise at how often Preacher wants me. He’s never once said no to sex, and, Harper, I ask him for sex a lot. I mean… a lot.”
Harper wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her chin on her knees. “Define a lot.”
“Twice a day sometimes,” Addison said. “And he’s always up for it.”
“I bet he is,” Harper said with a lecherous grin.
Addie laughed. “It’s so weird to me. Harrison turned me down for sex all the time. So to have Preacher never turn me down and, in fact, initiate it when I don’t is… well, it’s weird. In an awesome, I’m loving it, kind of way.”
“I’m so happy for you. You know that, right?” Harper said.
“I do. Thank you, honey. I’m happy for me too. My wedding to Harrison was supposed to be next Saturday, and I don’t even care,” Addison said. “His mom begged me to take him back. Did I tell you that?”
“Shit, no. When?” Harper said.
“Thursday night. She dropped by the apartment. Preacher wasn’t home yet, and she asked to talk to me for a couple of minutes. She pleaded her case for me to take Harrison back, and when I said I wouldn’t, she almost started crying. I guess Harrison is dating a girl from Willington and his parents are,” Addie made a face, “devastated.”
“I’m surprised his dad hasn’t disowned him. They’re one of the most vocal Willington haters in town,” Harper said.
“Tell me about it. Anyway, then Preacher came home, and she left pretty quickly.”
“That family is so fucked up,” Harper said.
“Speaking of family… are things okay with your dad and you?” Addie reached out and touched Harper’s hair. “Gosh, I love your hair so much.”
“Thanks, pinky-pie. It’s okay with us. After I texted you Saturday morning, I went downstairs and had a long talk with him. He planned to tell me about the house sale but wanted to wait a day or two because I was upset over the clinic. Which I get, but I wish he’d told me instead of having to hear it from Nathan. I was so shocked, and I… well, I made a fool of myself in front of him again.”
“You can’t help your reaction,” Addison said. “Naturally, it would be upsetting to find out that way.”
“Still, every time I’m around him, I’m either acting like a spoiled brat or like a horny teenager. I can’t believe I kissed him last night, Addie.”
“There’s an attraction between you,” Addison said. “It’s not so hard to believe that the two of you want to have sex.”
“Not anymore. At least on Nathan’s side. I’m still stupidly attracted to him, but any attraction he felt for me is gone after my reaction last night. Which is for the best, right?”
“Probably,” Addison said. “I don’t think he’s the right casual sex partner for you, honey. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. It’s true. Anyway, I don’t want to talk about Nathan anymore. My first day at the coffee shop is tomorrow, and I need to start looking for a new place to live. Which, at this point, I might have to rent in South Falls because I have very little left in my savings account.”
