“Right,” he said. “Listen, I’m sorry I was such a dick about your apology.”
“You weren’t,” she said.
“I was, and I shouldn’t have been,” he said.
A smile crossed her face. “Are you always this nice, Dr. Henshaw?”
“It’s Nathan, and what do you mean?”
“I tried to stop the sale of the clinic, I called you a pompous butt biscuit, and generally acted like an asshole. And you’re apologizing to me for being a dick.”
He laughed. “Let’s say we both acted poorly and leave it at that.”
“Sure,” she said.
“So, did you and that Daniel guy used to date?” he asked.
Did he sound jealous? Shit, he maybe sounded jealous.
“God no,” she said. ‘He’s Addison’s brother and basically like a brother to me too.”
“He seems to be into you,” he said.
“He’s not. He’s just drunk,” she said. “Even if he was, I could never be sexually attracted to a guy who sat on my head when we were kids and then farted.”
He laughed so hard the people dancing to their right stared at them. Harper grinned up at him. “It’s true.”
“Good to know,” he said.
Her voice turned teasing and a little flirtatious. “You gathering intel for when you ask me out, Dr. Henshaw? Finding out the do’s and don’ts for dating Harper Brandt?”
He studied her mouth. “Dating my boss’s daughter probably isn’t the smartest idea.”
“He’s not the boss anymore. You are.” The flirtatious and natural smile on her face changed. He might not know her very well, but he could see how fake the smile had become.
“Still not a good idea,” he said.
“Probably not.” She looked away for a few seconds, and when she stared up at him again, that flirtatious smile was planted back in place. “Luckily for you, I’m not looking to date anyone right now.”
“No? Celebrating celibacy, are you?” he asked with a grin.
“Celibacy… I’m not familiar with that word,” she said as her smile widened.
He laughed again. “Sadly, I am much too familiar with it.”
“Maybe I can help change that.” She stood on her tiptoes and pressed a soft kiss against his mouth.
And just like that, he had an erection. He would have been embarrassed by his reaction to one innocent kiss if Harper hadn’t pressed herself against his hardness and squeezed his shoulder with a glint in her gorgeous blue eyes.
Not caring that they were in the middle of a dance floor surrounded by people, Nathan bent his head and kissed her. He needed to taste her mouth again. Her lips were so fucking soft, and she made the sweetest little moan when Nathan flicked his tongue against her bottom lip. Her mouth parted, and he pulled her flush against his body as he slid his tongue between her lips and tasted the sweetness of her mouth. She tasted like strawberries, and she moaned again into his mouth as he pressed his cock against her hip.
Their kiss was broken when another couple bumped into them as they danced by.
“Dance or go find a fucking room,” the man said as his dance partner shushed him.
Nathan stared down at Harper. She touched her bottom lip before looking up at him, her eyes filled with desire. “You heard the man. Let’s go find a fucking room.”
He followed her off the dance floor and toward the bar entrance. From the corner of his eye, he saw Wyatt and Lucas standing at their table, and he gave them a brief wave. Wyatt nodded, and Lucas grinned at him. It was a dick move abandoning his friends like that, but he’d apologize tomorrow. His need to be with Harper was suddenly all encompassing.
