Ignoring them, she concentrated on keeping Daniel upright as they walked onto the dance floor. It was crowded with people, their bodies crammed together as they slow danced, and she put her arm around Daniel’s muscular shoulders, grimacing when he slung his arms around her waist, and most of his body weight relaxed against her.

“Hey, Harps.” He grinned carelessly as he circled her around the dance floor. “You glad to be home from the big city?”

“Yeah, really glad,” she said as she used her small body and all of her strength to steer him away from the couple he was about to slam into. “Hey, slow down, bud.”

He stopped and smiled again at her as they swayed back and forth in one spot. “You’re looking good, Harper. I like your hair.”

“Thank you.” She glanced around his broad body, looking for Addison and Kira. Getting Daniel home was her new priority.

“So,” Daniel’s hand slid down to her ass and squeezed, “I always had a feeling about you, Harper.”

She groaned inwardly and grabbed his arm, tugging his hand back up to her waist. “Oh yeah? About what?”

“About you having a crush on me.” His hand returned to her ass, giving it a friendly squeeze. “Not surprising, you know. Lots of Addie’s friends have had crushes on me.”

She fought to keep her eye rolling to a minimum and moved his hand from her ass again. “I don’t have a crush on you, Daniel.”

“Sure, you don’t.” He winked at her. “Just like Kira never had a crush on me. I’ll admit, you hid it better, but I saw the way you were looking at me tonight.”

His words were getting more slurred by the minute, and her irritation started to outshine her desire to get him home safe, especially when he cupped her ass for the third time. “I’m happy to give you what you want, Harps. But we’ll need to keep it quiet with Addie. She finds out you fucked me, she’ll be pissed.”

“I don’t want to fuck you, Daniel. We’re basically like siblings, and once you’re sober, you’ll be grossed out by this conversation,” Harper said as she tugged at his hand.

He just shrugged, keeping his hand firmly on her ass. “I’m not drunk and -”

“May I cut in?”

Harper stared in surprise at Nathan. Where the hell did he come from?

Nathan wasn’t looking at her. He was looking at Daniel, and when his gaze dropped to Daniel’s hand still gripping her ass, she thought she saw the faintest hint of anger cross Nathan’s face.

“Get the fuck out of here,” Daniel said. “You’re interrupting our dance.”

“Let go of her ass,” Nathan said.

Daniel raised his eyebrows at him. “You gonna make me, cowboy?”

“Let go of Harper,” Nathan said. “It’s the last time I’ll ask.”

“You know this asshole?” Daniel said to Harper.

“Yes.” She pulled Daniel’s hand off her ass. “Don’t be rude to him, Daniel.”

Nathan held out his hand to her. “Dance with me, Harper.”

“She’s already got a dance partner,” Daniel said. “You fucking blind or something?”

“Daniel.” Harper scowled at him. “Shut up before you get your ass kicked.”

“Hush, Harper.” Daniel pushed her behind him. “The men are talking right now.”

“The fuck?” Harper said as Nathan made a sound remarkably close to a growl. “You did not just say that to me.”

She pushed her way in front of Daniel again. “You watch how you fucking talk to me, Daniel unless you want to find out how easy it is to swallow your own fucking teeth.”

A snort of laughter escaped Daniel’s mouth. “You’re so cute, kid.”

She barely noticed when Nathan’s arm circled her waist and tugged her back until his hard body pressed against her spine and ass.
