Lucas stared at her ass in her tight jeans before saying, “Did you just turn that chick down?”
Nathan shrugged and leaned against the high table they’d managed to snag before it got busy. “I’m not abandoning you guys.”
“Oh, please,” Lucas said. “When a gorgeous woman like that asks you to have a drink with her, you say yes. You abandon us without a second look. Am I right?”
He looked at Wyatt and Connor, who both laughed and nodded.
“See?” Lucas said. “This is not a bros before ladies thing.”
“Isn’t the saying bros before hoes?” Wyatt asked.
“I’ve never called a woman ahoein my life, and I’m not about to start now,” Lucas said. “Women are glorious gifts from the gods, and I will treat them as such.”
“This is why Lucas has gotten laid more times than any guy I know,” Connor said.
“I thought it was because he flirts with every woman he meets,” Nathan said.
Connor laughed. “He does. But he means every flattering thing he says to a woman, and they can tell he’s being sincere.”
Lucas shrugged before taking a drink of his beer. “What can I say? I love women. Which is why I think you should join the lovely Rebecca and her friends and really celebrate in style tonight.”
“Thanks, but I’ll pass,” Nathan said.
“Why?” Lucas said.
“I don’t feel like hooking up tonight,” Nathan said.
“Who said anything about hooking up? Rebecca over there could be your soul mate,” Lucas said.
“No one ever finds their soul mate at a bar,” Nathan said.
He grunted when he took another elbow in the back. He turned around, nearly dropping his beer bottle when he saw who was behind him.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t watching where…” Harper trailed off, turning red and a look of dismay crossing her face when she saw him. “Oh, uh, hi, Dr. Henshaw.”
“Hey,” he said.
“Hey, honey.” A pretty blonde grinned at Connor. “What are you doing here? I thought you and Lucas were going to the pub.”
Connor squeezed around the table and slid his arm around her waist. “We were, but it was really crowded tonight. We decided to come here instead because it’s Nathan’s favourite bar.”
He steered her a little closer to Nathan. “Nathan, this is my girlfriend, Kira. Kira, this is Nathan Henshaw.”
“Nice to meet you.” Kira shook his hand.
“Nice to meet you too,” Nathan said. He smiled at Addison. “Hello, Addison.”
“Hi, Nathan,” Addison said.
“What are you lovely ladies up to tonight?” Lucas asked.
“Oh, um,” Kira hesitated, “we’re celebrating.”
Harper and Addison stared at her like she’d grown a second head as Lucas said, “What a coincidence, so are we. What are you celebrating?”
“Harper got a job.” Kira smiled at Connor. “She’s working at Grind my Beans.”
“Congratulations,” Connor said.
