“Yeah, it is.” He did a dorky little dance, nearly spilling the wine in his glass as Harper laughed.
“Okay, that was somehow both ridiculous and sexy. You really can dance, Nathan.”
“I really can,” he agreed, making her laugh again.
“Anyway, we’re celebrating the clinic doing better and,” she paused, her cheeks flushed with colour and a look of pure joy on her face, “Isaac Stark hired me to do some commission work.”
“Holy shit! Isaac Stark, the billionaire?” he asked.
“The very one,” she said. “He came into the shop today, saw my art on the wall, and loved it! Hazel made me take a quick break so he could look through my sketchpad and he must have liked what he saw because he wants to set up a commission for some artwork for his office.”
“Harper!” Nathan wrapped one arm around Harper and picked her up, hugging her hard as she giggled and tried not to spill her wine. “That’s awesome! Congratulations, honey!”
“Thank you!” She clinked her glass against his, and they both drank before he set her down. She took his glass and hers and set them on the counter before putting her arms around his shoulders. She leaned back against the counter, parting her legs and pulling him up against her until he was nestled between her thighs. “It’s not a done deal yet. He said his assistant would call me next week to set up a meeting with him, so this could be prematurely celebrating, but it doesn’t feel that way, you know? Like, I’m confident that he’ll hire me.”
“He will,” Nathan said. “I am so proud of you, Harper.”
“Thank you.” Her smile was warm and pleased looking.
“What did your dad say?” he asked.
“Oh, I haven’t told him yet,” she said. “I just came straight over here after work. Well, after I picked up the wine and donuts.”
“I’m the first one you told?” he asked.
“Yes. I wanted you to know right away. Hell, I could barely keep myself from texting you, but I really wanted to tell you in person.”
He’d been the first person she thought of to share her news with. She’d come to him first. He wanted to pretend that it was no big deal, that it didn’t mean anything, but being her ‘person’, thrilled him.
Harper smiled up at him before reaching between them and rubbing his hardening dick. “You know, I just thought of something I’d like much more than a donut.”
“Oh yeah?” He pressed a kiss against her mouth. “What’s that?”
“Riding your face,” she said.
He grinned. “Sounds like the perfect celebration.”
“Right?” She took his hand and tugged him toward the kitchen doorway. “And then I’ll give you the best blow job of your life, and then,” her voice went low and sexy, “I’ll ride you until we both come so hard we can’t see straight.”
“I want more,” he blurted out.
She turned back to him, a wicked grin on her face. “My, my, aren’t we a greedy boy tonight, Dr. Henshaw. Fine, you can eat my pussy twice and then -”
“No,” he said. “I mean, I want more with you.”
She stared up at him. “I’m not following.”
“I want us to date. Officially,” he said. “And I think you want that too.”
Her body went stiff, and his surety faltered at the cautious look on her face. “Nathan, we agreed to friends with benefits, remember?”
“Yes, but we can change that.”
“You didn’t want to date me because if my dad finds out -”
He pulled Harper close, kissing her lightly before smiling. “He’d be happy for us. You know he would, Harper. It was stupid of me to think he would have a problem with it. We’re both adults, right?”
She squeezed his arms, her face pale when she said, “I can’t date right now, Nathan.”
