“Me too,” shewhispered.
She shuffledcloser and he slid his arm around her waist before bending his headand resting his forehead against hers. He inhaled deeply, his warmhand cupping her hip. “I want to sleep with you, I do, but I -”
“I saw Daniellast night,” she said.
He tensedagainst her, raising his head to study her. “Where?”
“He was waitingoutside for me when I got home last night.”
Was it wrongthat she got a little thrill from the jealousy that crossedConnor’s face?
“So, he’sstalking you now?”
She shook herhead. “No, he just wanted to talk. He was upset because we weren’thanging out as much.”
His body wasnow so stiff, it was like hugging a board. “Well, I guess that’sgood, right? You want him to be jealous.”
“He was onlyjealous because I’m not fawning over him anymore,” she said.
He didn’t replyand she rubbed her hand over his chest. “What I said on Wednesdaynight about only sleeping with you to gain experience? It wasn’ttrue.”
“No?” His voicewas guarded, not quite willing to accept what she was sayingyet.
“No, itwasn’t,” she said. “I do think my virginity is special, and maybethat’s silly, but it’s how I feel. It’s important to me and I wantto give it to someone who knows that. I want to give it to youbecause you understand what it means to me and because it’s specialto you too.”
“What aboutDaniel?” he said.
“I don’t wantDaniel to have it anymore. In fact, I don’t want Daniel atall.”
“Since when?”he said.
“Since Irealized that what I want and need is someone who is interested inme for more than just what I can do for them. Someone who wants toget to know me better, who looks out for me, who makes me laugh andaccepts me for who I am. Someone like you, Connor.”
“Kira, I’m not…I’m not always great at being in a relationship. I can be moodysometimes and closed off.”
She shrugged.“I’ve never even been in a serious relationship before. I mightsuck at it too. I’m a little needy occasionally and I’m stillstruggling with my parents’ deaths. I take medication fordepression and I have twice monthly therapy appointments, but somedays are harder than others. I have no idea if I’ll be a goodgirlfriend or not.”
He pulled herup tight against him and pressed a kiss against her forehead.“You’re a great girlfriend. You can’t expect yourself to be perfectat a relationship, honey.”
She smiled alittle. “Neither can you.”
He paused. “Iwalked right into that, didn’t I?”
“Yep.”
He laughed andkissed her forehead again. “Did we just decide to try dating forreal?”
“I think wedid,” she said.
The dimple inhis cheek made an appearance. “Best day ever.”
“Actually,” shesaid, “I could think of one more thing that would make it the bestday ever.”
“Oh yeah?” Theheat in his eyes was making her nipples harden. “What’s that?”
“You and mebanging like bunnies,” she said.
He burst intolaughter. “So romantic.”
