Gina grabbedLisa’s hand. “All right. Follow me, everyone.”

“You look likeyou could use this.” Lucas sat down beside her and placed a drinkin front of her.
“Oh, thank you,but Connor is getting me one,” Kira said.
Lucas pointedto the far end of the room where an older woman with short, grayhair was holding Connor’s arm and talking animatedly to him.“Connor’s been waylaid by his aunt. Trust me, he won’t return forat least half an hour.”
She smiled andpicked up the drink. They clinked glasses and she took a sip, theburn of the whisky surprisingly helpful.
“So, how areyou holding up?”
“Fine,” Kirasaid. “I’m having a great time.”
“Oh yeah?”Lucas gave her a disbelieving look.
“Yes. Theceremony was beautiful, the food was delicious and the music,” shepointed to the dance floor where the bride and groom, as well as acouple dozen of their friends and family were dancing, “is onpoint. I’ve enjoyed meeting Connor’s family and friends.”
He grinned.“Well aren’t you just a glass half full kind of girl.”
“Thank you, bythe way, for pretending to know me so well before the ceremony. Itwas feeling a bit awkward and you really helped break thetension.”
“Not a problem.I’m Connor’s best friend and it’s my duty to help convince peoplehis fake relationship is anything but fake.”
The whiskeysloshed unpleasantly in Kira’s stomach. “I’m sorry?”
Lucas studiedher, a small frown crossing his face. “Are you okay? I thought youknew Connor told me about this being fake. You’re trying to makesome firefighter jealous, right?”
“Oh, um, yeahwe were, but Connor and I decided to date for real,” Kira said. “Hedidn’t mention it to you?”
Lucas shook hishead. “No, he didn’t.”
“Oh.”
“I’m sure it’sjust because he was busy. Plus, he’s not really one to share a lot,you know?”
“Yeah, I know.”Kira made herself smile at Lucas, but the nausea was growing. Whyhadn’t Connor told his best friend that they were dating for real? Was he having second thoughts? Once the wedding was over, would hetell Kira they were over?
“So, I heardthat you found the perfect place for Stark’s new office.”
She blinked athim. “What?”
“Isaac Stark? He’s my boss. You were the agent who found him the new office inHarmony Falls, right?”
“How did youknow that?” she asked.
“Didn’t Connortell you? He called and asked me to recommend you to Stark.”
“He did?” Kirasaid.
Lucas nodded.“He didn’t say anything?”
“No, I … hedidn’t.” Warmth infused her entire body. Connor had helped her gether first sale.
A flash ofpurple caught her eye. Gina and Lisa were standing together nearthe dance floor, talking to a few other wedding guests. Sheswallowed hard. Lisa was gorgeous and sweet, and she ran her ownbusiness. It didn’t matter how many houses she sold, Kira wouldnever be as successful or beautiful as her.
“Hey.” Lucastouched her hand. He was staring at Gina and Lisa as well and heshook his head. “Don’t let Gina’s obsession with Lisa get in yourhead.”
