I release her hand. “I’ll see you after.”

“If you insist.”

Frustration makes my vision cloud as I get to my feet. “I do.”

I lock eyes with George, and he steps closer to Mia’s table, guarding her while I fulfill my duties as gym owner and trainer.

My nerves are on edge until Thatcher and Malone enter the ring, and then I forget everything else as I watch my fighter do everything right and take his first win with a knockout.

Dear Jay,

Good morning. I hope this email finds you happy and well after an incredibly successful night. Congrats to you and everyone else who won!

As you know, my brother’s wedding is quickly approaching. I wanted to make sure you were updated on the specifics. The wedding will take place on Serenade Island, a small island off the coast of Florida.

Due to the fact that one of the guests is a celebrity, extreme security measures are in place. No one without an invitation will be allowed entry, which means there is no safer place for me to be.

It also means you are off the hook for accompanying me.

I appreciate your willingness to go above and beyond your duty as my body guard, but it is not necessary for you to be my date to keep me safe.

Regards, Mia

Mia,

Thank you for the congratulations and for being there last night. It means a lot to me that you came.

I’m glad you will be safe during your brother’s wedding weekend, but that doesn’t mean I want to back out of the trip.

What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t show up to your brother’s wedding?

Jay

P.S. Who is the celebrity?
