“Brim?” Mae said stiffly.

Yes?

“Don’t transform down here. We need to be careful with our magic or we’ll wreck the place.”

The fox huffed, irritated.I will lend you my powers as much as I can.

“Thanks.”

Hellreaver changed into his dagger form.Sobol’s gaze locked on the weapon. The humanOniksgang members swore and recoiled. Several of the sorcerers frowned heavily, recognition dawning in their eyes.

It seemed news of Hellreaver had reached their ears.

The weapon spoke. Can I consume their flesh?!

Mae made a face at Hellreaver’s eager voice. “You wanna eat them?”

TheOniksmembers blanched.

Yessss!

“We had dinner three hours ago,” she reminded him.

Hellreaver’s tone turned into that of a petulant teenager.

That only satisfied a fraction of my demons.

Mae sighed. “Alright. But don’t be messy. I don’t want to ruin these clothes.”

Black magic shot across the chamber. Vlad and Nikolai deflected the spell bombs before they reached Mae. The orbs smashed into the ceiling. Plaster dust rained down on them. Mae stared at the craters before eyeballing the two men with a piercing frown.

Vlad shrugged. “What?”

“I said mind the building!” she snapped.

Nikolai grunted and engaged a demon, his spear blocking the claws headed for his eyes.

“Is she always like this when she fights?” Vlad asked the sorcerer, his swords slashing twoOniksmembers nearly in half as he advanced toward Sobol.

“Like what?”

“Too nice for her own good?”

Nikolai blasted a sorcerer with magic and swooped beneath the demon’s next attack. “Yeah!”

He stabbed the monster in the foot with the spear, pinning him to the floor.

“It’s called not being a destructive asshole!” Mae snarled.

She smashed Hellreaver’s knuckle duster into a demon’s face. The creature screamed, his nose coming away from his skull. The weapon chomped down on the flesh and cartilage he’d bitten off.

“That’s gross,” Violet said dully.

TheOniksgang members fired their guns. Hellreaver left Mae’s hands, blurred through the air, and ate all the bullets. The men gurgled in terror as the weapon chewed the slugs with sounds of contentment.

“He’ssosick,” Miles muttered, his voice full of admiration.
