Glancing around, I see a group of students gathered around us. Half look like they want to get involved and stop her. The other half look like they want a fight to break out. I don’t see anyone I know. It seems like it’s mostly students from the team we are playing tonight. I turn my gaze back to Vanessa. She opens her mouth to say something, but I’m not done, so I beat her to it.
“Look, I’m sorry you have a crush on him, and he doesn’t return your feelings. I didn’t make him choose to be with me. It was the opposite. I tried to push him away. I, like you, didn’t think I was good enough for him. I still don’t, but he seems to think I am. I refuse to stop being with him because you don’t like it.” I shrug. “I’m sorry, Vanessa, but I love him, and as long as he continues to love me, I will be beside him. You are going to have to get over it. I suggest you go home and sleep off whatever you drank.” I say, bending to pick up my phone before sidestepping her because I’m not about to get into a fight with her in that state.
But she doesn’t let me get past her; moving to block me, she says, “You know he slept with me when he first got here. He told me my pussy was the best he ever had.”
For a split second, I believe her, and my stomach rolls, but then I remember who she is. “I don’t believe you, but so what if it that’s true. We weren’t together then, and I haven’t heard one complaint from him while he’s been inside me.” I shrug my shoulders, trying to give off the I don’t fucking care vibe.
I hear the ohs and ahs behind me as I walk away. Ignoring them, I continue, but the next words I hear coming from Vanessa make me stumble just for a second. “You are going to regret this bitch. I will make him leave you or kill you myself since you can’t do it properly.”
“I’ve heard that a million times as well, Vanessa,” I whisper, not bothering to turn around. Worry does fill my veins at the threat to my life. Is she really that far gone that she would hurt me? The further I get away from her, the calmer my body becomes. My legs and hands stop shaking, and I’m completely calm when I enter the cafeteria, trying to forget what happened. Nothing is going to ruin this for me, I’ll talk to Dad about the threat, but I don’t want to worry Parker or Levi about it.
Parker comes rushing in through the doors in front of me, his panicked eyes scanning the crowd. When his gaze lands on me, he stops walking, taking me in, starting at my feet, stopping only when he gets to my eyes. He’s looking for injuries, and when he doesn’t see any, a smile forms on his face as his chest rises and falls with a deep breath. I smile back as I head straight to him. He pulls me into a hug when I’m within arm’s reach.
“Are you okay, baby? I tried calling you to warn you that she was here, but…” I cut him off by pressing my lips to his. Pulling back, I stare into his beautiful blue eyes that hold so much love for me that my heart feels like it will burst. Thoughts about asking if he had slept with her filter through, but I push them away. I’m not going to let her lies and my self-doubt ruin the best thing in my life.
“I’m fine, baby. She didn’t do anything but yell at me, saying you should be with someone like her, not someone like me. Nothing that I don’t already tell myself on my bad days.” Holding up my phone, I tell him, “The only causality is this.”
He pulls me closer, leaning down to speak into my ear. “What did I tell you? If you talk bad about yourself one more time, I will bend you over my knee and spank that ass red.” Shivers break out all over my body, and my face blushes. The vision of his big hands on my ass makes warmth flood me, and my panties grow wet. Grabbing my phone out of my hand, he shakes his head, “Well, you have no more excuses about why I can’t buy you a better phone. Now do you?”
Pulling back, he bites his lower lip, readjusting his erection. My eyes fall to the bulge in his jeans, and I swallow, fighting the urge to sink down to help him out. “Later, big boy,” I say, touching his chest.
“Promise?” He smirks. I smack his chest and he catches my hand. “Do you want to stay, or would you rather go somewhere else?”
I move to stand next to him, linking my fingers with his. “We are staying. I want to be a normal teenager and watch a basketball game. Plus, we promised Levi and Tiffani that we could emerge from your room long enough to hang out with them. This is our last chance to be a normal high school couple attending a basketball game. And don’t think I didn’t hear that remark about a phone. You aren’t buying me a phone,” I say, pulling him toward the gym.
“We’ll see about that, and I like being in my room with you,” he says, pulling me closer.
With everything going on, I forgot about his gift in my bag. I stop us right before we go inside. Pulling the box out, I hold it out for him to take. “I almost forgot I got you this.”
Taking the box from me, he asks, “What is this, and why can you buy me something, but I can’t buy you a phone?”
“If I tell you, it defeats the purpose of me spending time wrapping it, wouldn’t it? A phone costs way more than what I paid for this,” I say, pulling him to the side so people can go around us into the gym. He slowly opens the present, and I can’t help but worry he won’t like it. When I saw it at the store with Tiffani and Carly, it screamed Parker, so I had to get it. I take the paper out of his hand since there are no trash cans around us.
As he opens the little box, a smile spreads across his face. “How did you know I wanted this?” He pulls out the double-stranded black, braided leather bracelet.
“I didn’t. I saw it this afternoon and thought it would fit you perfectly, so I got it.” I smile, feeling warm inside. Taking it from him, I motion for him to give me his wrist. I undo the clasp, placing it around his large wrist and securing it.
“Thank you, Butterfly,” he says, pulling me in for a kiss that holds a million promises.
“Mr. West, Ms. Hill, no PDA at school, even after hours,” a voice comes from behind Parker. Looking over his shoulders, Larry is standing there smiling. Parker turns around laughing while pulling me into his side.
“Sorry, Mr. Williams. I couldn’t help myself. I had to thank my girl for getting me this cool present.” He holds up his arm. I feel my face heating up. I hide behind my hand that is not around his waist, trying to suppress a giggle, but failing.
Larry snickers, patting him on the shoulder. “Nice, Parker. Now you better find a seat before the good ones are taken.”
We head into the gym, looking for my brother and Tiffani. Finally seeing them, we weave our way toward them through the mass of bodies. “Hey, how did you know that she was here?” I ask over my shoulder.
“She called me, wanting to know if I would come and meet up with her. She started to yell at me when I told her no, but I just hung up,” he says from behind me as we climb the bleachers.
“Who was yelling?” Levi asks as I sit down next to him.
Parker is on the right of me, next to the walkway, and Tiffani is on the other side of Levi. “Vanessa,” Parker and I answer simultaneously, making me giggle and look over at my stunning boyfriend.
“She’s out in the hallway. She stopped me just to yell at me about my relationship with him.” I point over my shoulder toward said boyfriend.
Levi starts to stand up, but Tiffani and I grab his hands to pull him back down. The only difference is I let go when his butt hits the surface below him. “No, leave it. All she did was spit a little bit in my face, but I’m fine. She’s well on her way to getting drunk anyway. Not worth it, baby brother,” I say, rolling my eyes.
“She signed a damn agreement that she would leave you the fuck alone, Em. That means talking to you as well.”
