As we entered the house, I caught glimpses of the opulent interior—gleaming polished floors, high ceilings adorned with elaborate chandeliers, and priceless works of art lining thewalls. But I couldn’t focus on the beauty around me; my thoughts were consumed with worry for the pack.

Jaxon deposited me onto the couch, then went onto grab two glasses of water for us.

My thoughts were all over the place.

Everything was moving too fast, and my pack was in danger. Jaxon tried to soothe me when he noticed that I wasn’t relaxing against the couch.

“There’s no use in worrying right now,” he said gently. “You need to rest. All this stress isn’t good for the baby.”

“I can’t relax right now,” I whispered, taking deep breaths as I sipped the cold water. Jaxon watched me with concern as he rubbed my back.

“Maybe taking you to your nest will help calm you,” he suggested as I numbly set the glass down. Nothing would calm me at this moment.

“It doesn’t matter,” I said listlessly.

Jaxon lifted me once more, carrying me up the tall staircase.

“Don’t give up hope,” he said, walking down the hallway with me in his arms. “They’re still alive. I can feel it.”

“Oh,” I replied, the sinking feeling in my stomach easing slightly. “Could you feel it if something happened to them?”

“Yes, I feel the pain of our pack or any strong emotions they have. You will, too, once we mark you, babe.”

As he set me down in a plush blue nest filled with soft cushions and velvety pillows, I sank into its luxurious embrace, surprised by how comfortable it felt against my stressed muscles.

“Interesting,” I murmured.

“I will let you know immediately if anything happens,” Jaxon reassured me, massaging my tense shoulders. “But for now, they’re all okay.”

It also reminded me that Jaxon was my alpha now.

“Why did Tyler join the pack?” I asked, desperate for any information that might make sense of my swirling emotions. “Was it forced or something?”

Jaxon hesitated, his hands stilling on my shoulders.

“Tyler felt guilty as hell for leaving you,” he confessed. “He was the only one who knew how to get into Henry’s place, and Logan figured a bigger pack would have a better chance of success.”

“It’s going to be really hard for me to forgive him for the way he ended things,” I said slowly. “I really don’t think I can get over it.”

“Tyler is your alpha now,” Jaxon whispered, and my stomach clenched. I didn’t know if it was from fear or arousal.

“And you’re mine now, too,” I said, giving him a small smile. “That’s the best thing that came out of this whole ‘joining of forces’.”

“Do you really think so?”

“I do.”

As much as I wanted to deny it, part of me knew that Tyler and his pack would always hold some power over my heart—no matter how hard I tried to resist.

The darknessof the room wrapped around us like a cocoon for the next few minutes. Jaxon’s muscular body pressed against my back as he sat behind me.

His strong arms encircled me, and I could feel the heat radiating from his skin, calming my frazzled nerves even as it stirred something else deep within me.

“Can’t believe I missed it all,” Jaxon murmured, his voice rough with regret as his hands, which had been massaging my shoulders, slowly slid down my arms and then across mypregnant belly. “The day you found out you were expecting... all those months after.”

I swallowed, my heart aching at the raw emotion in his words.

“It’s okay,” I whispered, trying to reassure him that I had no hard feelings. “I know you had to follow Tyler’s orders.”
