“He’s finding out a few things about the bitch.Things that will put her in prison for a while.”

“Good.”

Rick almost smiled at the venom in his wife’s tone.It was something he’d never heard before.

“How much longer?”she asked.

“He said by the end of the week.”

“That’s a long time to be away from work.”

“I know.My office is fine with me working from home, and I told your principal you’re still very sick but will be back at school next Monday. He said not to worry about your classroom. They all want you to get better.”

“Should I feel bad lying to them?”

Rick shook his head.“No, Baby.I’m the one talking to them, not you, and in a way, it’s the truth.Neither of us will feel better until that bitch is arrested.”

She nodded and relaxed against him.

He tipped her head up and studied her. She’d gotten a lot of rest the last few days, so the dark circles under her eyes had diminished.

“How about a game of poker,” he said, trying to get her mind off things.

Her eyes lit up.“What kind of poker?”

He grinned.“Strip poker, of course.”

Riley grinned and giggled.“Yes.”

Rick chuckled.“Go on upstairs, and I’ll grab some cards.”

She scrambled off his lap and rushed through the house. He could hear her racing up the steps and chuckled. He grabbed a deck of cards and followed her.

When he got to the bedroom, she smoothed the comforter out and was sitting cross-legged, ready to play.Rick sat opposite her.He shuffled and dealt the cards. He held back a grin when he saw he had two fours.

“How many do you want?”he asked.

He watched as she concentrated on her hand.

“Three,” she said.

He handed her three and himself three. It was next to impossible to hold back his grin when he saw he got another four.Three of a kind would most likely beat her.

He watched her lay down her cards and grin at him.

“Two kings.”

He smiled and set down his cards.“Three fours.”

He could tell she wasn’t happy and then took off a sock.

Rick almost snorted. He dealt the cards again. This time, he had nothing.“How many?”

“Three.”

He gave her the cards and then dealt himself four.Damn.From the smile on her face, he knew she would win this round.

Riley laid down two aces. She giggled when he showed her his cards.
