She moves a little closer, her hand resting on my chest, then her breath hitches, and she pulls back.
“I don’t want to get too caught up here.”
I trail my lips over her jaw. “You’re right. We should save that for later.”
She shivers in response, and I can’t help but smile to myself.
“Sushi?” I ask, leaning back and flinging my door open.
She blinks a couple of times and fumbles for the handle of her door. “Yes, please.”
Amanda
I am a perfectly spoiled princess, and for once, I’m allowing myself to revel in every second of it.
Our sushi dinner was the best I’ve ever eaten in my life. Don’t get me wrong, it was expensive, but I might have to splurge on that a couple of times a year. It was fantastic.
Now we’re at some trendy dessert bar that smells like chocolate, vanilla, and heaven.
“So, I have an idea of what you might want, but take a look at the menu, and we’ll see if I’m right.”
I arch a brow at his cocky smile. “You know, as much as you like to use that cocky, confident exterior as a mask, you also have a cocky side. Though I’m starting to wonder if it only comes out for me.”
He leans in, breath tickling my ear as he speaks. “You’re always saying dirty things to me.”
I give a playful shrug. “I think you’ve just got sex on your mind.”
“I’ve got you on my mind.”
“We could skip dessert,” I tease, setting my menu down.
“Not a chance. My girl deserves the best, and that’s exactly what you’re going to get.”
I’m trying to trust that he’s right about that. He’s shown me a lot over the last couple of months, and even though I said yes to him tonight—and I’m excited about that—I’m still nervous. I go back to school in two weeks. What happens then?
I don’t want to think about it.
“I like when you call me your girl.”
“Want to know a secret?”
“Tell me.”
“I’ve been calling you that in my mind for months now.”
“Manifesting?”
He tilts his head back and forth. “More like knowing what I want. I decided to consider you my girl and treat you like my girl, and I hoped that would help show you how much you mean to me.”
“I appreciate that. I hope you know me saying yes—to this date or being your girlfriend—wasn’t only about how you took care of me when I was sick. I appreciate that, but it was just a part of the bigger picture. You showed me you’re paying attention—to me, to my words, and most importantly, to what I don’t say. I’ve never had that before. Not like this. I hope I’m able to give you the same thing.”
He cups my face, brushing his thumb over my bottom lip. “You do. From that night at the event, you’ve always seen right through me.”
I tilt my head, begging him to kiss me again.
“Ready to order?”
Jamie and I break apart at the sound of the server’s voice.
