“No. Who’s that?”

He sat up and bent his knees then stared out across the pond.

“He’s the man who tried to rape her.”

“Oh my God! She was almost raped too? She never told me.”

“She probably wants to forget that part. The bastard had his eye on her the minute she was brought back to the house.” Micah ran his hand down his face. “Christ, what a fuck up that was. She never should have been taken in the first place but from what Mont told me later, she volunteered to go so no one else would get hurt. Blackman was a pig and he deserved what he got.”

“Is he in prison?”

“No.” He shook his head. “Mont killed him. Mont was at the house with Isabella but just had to get out. I don’t know whathappened, but he told Barkley he needed to go for a ride on his bike. Barkley was to stay with her until Mont got back only Barkley was called out to do another task, and had to leave. He had Blackman stay with her. Barkley had made it clear to all of us that no one was to touch Isabella. He might have been a murderer, but he despised any man who raped women.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah, it’s funny that someone like him would be that way but he thought a man who raped a woman was scum, even though he’d killed so many people.” Micah shrugged. “A lot of men feel that way about a rapist or child molester. They’ll kill them in prison. I’ve seen it happen. A murderer isn’t necessarily a rapist any more than a rapist is a murderer.”

“That does make sense. I’m just shocked she didn’t tell me about any of this. What happened?”

“Blackman went into her room and tore her shirt off then hit her a couple of times before getting her jeans off. All I know is that Mont returned just in time to pull Blackman off her. They got into a fight and Blackman stabbed Mont in the shoulder, but he was still able to overtake Blackman and stabbed him in the heart. Thing is, Isabella had a chance to run but didn’t take it. Oh, she was going to, but Mont told her Barkley would kill him if she ran off. That was enough to make her stop and decide tostay. He called me, and I stitched him up. We told Barkley that Blackman had tried to rape her, and Mont had to kill him. I knew then she was in love with Mont.”

“I’m so glad it worked out. They’re very much in love and those babies of theirs are just adorable.” Patsy leaned back on her elbows.

“They are. I don’t see them as much as I’d like to, but Mont and I keep in touch.” Micah moved to lay his head in her lap and stared up at her.

“Comfy?” she asked him, raising an eyebrow at him as if annoyed.

He grinned up at her. He sat up then leaned in close to her, his lips hovering above hers.

“I need to steal a kiss,” he murmured against her lips.

“Can’t steal it if I give it to you,” she whispered.

He chuckled. “True. Kiss me, Patsy.”

Smiling against his lips, she pressed hers to his and kissed him. She slipped her tongue into his mouth and he groaned. Moving his hand up along her arm, he slid it to the nape of her neck then into her ponytail. He pulled her closer and deepened the kiss. She moaned into his mouth when he pushed her to her back. When she pushed against his shoulders, he raised his head and stared into her eyes.

“I am not having sex with you out here in an open field.”

“No?” He moved his lips to her neck and nibbled before lightly nipping her with his teeth. He smiled when she shivered.

“No. Anyone could see us, and I don’t want a damn cow coming over here to watch.”

Micah laughed. “All right. Are you ready to go back then?”

“Yes.”

He nodded then stood and pulled her to her feet. Cupping her face in his hands, he lowered his head and took her lips in a deep kiss.

“Sure I can’t change your mind?” he whispered against her lips.

Patsy moaned.

“You could but I’m not letting you. When we get back to your house, maybe…” She stood on her toes and kissed his lips.

Nodding, he relinquished to her suggestion. Micah saddled the horses and once they’d both mounted, he led the way back.

He was in trouble as far as his feelings went with her. He knew he was falling for her and he shouldn’t. Sharing a life with someone in his profession wasn’t easy. Sure, some marriages worked, like Coby and Joyce’s but he’d also seen a lot of divorces in the agency. Glancing over to her, he saw her take a bite of the apple she’d brought along. She held it out to him and raised an inquisitive eyebrow. Micah shook his head. He didn’t need a damn apple totempt him. All he needed was her. She was temptation enough in one sexy little package.
