“Don’t worry about me…just go, Patsy.”
Looking over to Patsy, he saw her opening her door and stepping out. Gunfire sounded, and he ducked as bullets hit the Tahoe. He never had a chance to run for the door as shots whipped over his head. He slipped from his seat then crawled toward the front of the SUV but more shots rang out again, and he had to duck. He heard Patsy scream. When he looked up, he sawher grabbed and dragged out of the garage by Melbourne.
Damn it!He should have pushed that remote as soon as she got out of the Tahoe. She would have made it inside. Micah moved to run after them, but Melbourne continued to shoot at him as he dragged her along using her as a shield. Micah got to his feet to see Melbourne dragging her to a black car sitting across the street.
“Shit,” Micah muttered as more bullets hit the house.
He watched helplessly as Melbourne stuffed Patsy into the car before quickly climbing behind the wheel. The vehicle tore off down the street with a squeal from the tires.
Micah pulled his cell phone from his pocket and called Coby as he reached into the Tahoe, grabbed his vest then ran to his Vette and quickly climbed in, hit the garage door opener, started the car, and shifted into Reverse. The tires spun with a squeal as he backed out of the driveway.
“The son of a bitch has her. He ambushed us just outside of the garage. I never should have taken her out of the house. The one fucking day no agents are outside, Melbourne makes his move,” he yelled into his cell phone as he shifted the gear into First, spun the tires again, making the car fishtail, and tore off after Melbourne. He could see the vehicle ahead of him.
“He’s probably been watching for a while now, Micah. Tell me where you are and we’re on the way,” Coby told him.
“Right now, I’m heading down my street. The bastard was waiting for us. I think he waited and when I pulled the Tahoe up to the garage and opened the door for us to go in, he made his move. I don’t really care right now. He had a car sitting across the street and I didn’t even notice it.Fuck! If I hadn’t taken her out, then Weber and Jewell would have been here. I told them to take the day off.”
“It happens, Micah. Keep him in your sight. Can you make out the tags?”
“No, I’m not close enough but he’s heading for the Interstate to go east.”
“All right, we’re leaving the office now. We’ll catch up and in the meantime, I’ll call local law enforcement. Hang in there.” Coby disconnected the call.
“Hang in there, my ass,” Micah muttered as he sped after the car.
How had he missed seeing that car? He was more astute than that. It was because when he was withher, and he couldn’t think of anything else. She meant too much to him and now because he hadn’t been on his guard, Melbourne had her.Damn it!He was falling for her and it put him off his game. Besides, he knew he just couldn’t do it. He can’t fall for her. She’d go back to Dry River and he’d stay here. If he got her back.
“Oh, I will definitely get her back even if I have to kill Melbourne to do it.”
Shifting into Fourth gear, he picked up speed as he followed them up the ramp onto the Interstate. There was no way that car could outrun his Vette, but he had to stay back so he wouldn’t put Patsy in danger. Shifting to Fifth then Sixth, he weaved in and out of traffic keeping his eye on the car.

“Where are you taking me?” Patsy asked her abductor.
“Just don’t you worry about it, you’ll see when we get there.” Melbourne glanced over to her then back to the road. “White didn’t tell me what a nice piece of ass you are.”
“Fuck you,” Patsy spat leaning closer to the door.
“I just might let you.” Melbourne laughed.
“In your dreams, jackass, I’d rather die first.”
“That can be arranged. You sure don’t seem to mind fucking that FBI agent.”
She bit her lip to keep from gasping. How did he know? Mentally shaking her head, she knew he was just guessing and saying it to upset her but she refused to let him.
“You’re right, I didn’t mind. He’s very good in bed. Something you’re probably not.”
“Want to find out?”
“Like I said, I’d rather die first.”
Melbourne chuckled. “We’ll see. Maybe I’ll make you beg for your life first. Then I’ll fuck you.”
She laughed to cover her fear. “What a charmer. You probably don’t get much action talking like that.”
“Shut up,” he shouted.
