“Of course I want him to be happy.I just don’t believe that he’s going to find it with you.”
“Why do you hate me so much? What did I ever do to you?”
“Kaleb Lyons.”
“Kaleb Lyons,” I repeat the name, rolling it on my tongue, trying to figure why that name sounds familiar.“From junior year?”
“Ding.Ding Ding.”
“He asked me to prom.”Confusion colors my expression.
“He had already asked me and then he dumped me when you said yes.”
“I’m sorry.I never knew that.If I’d known.”
“Whatever.Guess you want everything that belongs to me.Next, you’ll be trying to fuck Hero behind my back.”
She storms off before I can respond to the accusation.I shake her negative energy off and resume putting my stuff in the closet.
Big Daddy arrives home a few hours later and I meet him down in the kitchen for dinner with Sissy and some of the other guys from the club.
There’s rarely a minute alone in this place and I begin second guessing moving in.Our meal is loud and chaotic.Everyone is talking over each other while stuffing their faces with antipasto salad and pizza.
Upstairs, away from the noise, my man settles on the edge of the bed, pulling off his boots one at a time while I watch from the bedroom door.“Tough day?”
“No more than usual,” he admits, though I can sense that he’s guarded. There’s something he isn’t telling me, and I’m not surprised. In this life, there are always secrets.Things he can’t share with me.Questions I don’t dare ask.
I cross the room, and I crawl onto his lap, straddling him as I wrap my arms around his extensive shoulders.“Want to talk about it?”
He strokes my back gently, his touch soothing me despite the question hanging in the air between us.“Nothing you need to worry about.Club business.”
He studies my face.“You got something on your mind?”
“Just thinking.”
“About?”
I bite my lip, unsure how to broach the topic.“This house is full.”
He chuckles, brushing my hair back from my face.“Yeah, it can get a little hectic.”
“I don’t mean to sound ungrateful or like I regret moving in here,” I quickly add, at the hint of concern flashing in his eyes.“It’s different from what I’m used to, is all.”
“I’d say so after being on your own, but I’ll tell you what. You pick a room, and we’ll make it yours. For when you need time to yourself.”
“Seriously?”
“Babe, when are you going to learn that I’ll do anything to make you smile?”
“Right now, apparently.”
“Good, because I plan on keeping you for a long time.”
Chapter Fourteen
I’vebarelyclosedmyeyes when my cell phone vibrates on the nightstand.I peel my arm out from under Gwynee as she mumbles something in her sleep.
“This better be good,” I tell Hero.
