“Please. Don’t pretend you can fool me. You paid off the hospital bill for my brother. Didn’t you? Eighty thousand dollars means nothing to you. To me, it’s everything. No one evil would do an act of kindness like that. You made certain I received a larger raise than I was given only two weeks ago. That was all you. Wasn’t it? Admit it!”

“You have no clue what you’re talking about.”

“Oh, yes, I do. How about this. You were in my apartment. You stood over me while I was sleeping. You’ve been watching out for me. You sorted through my mail, noticing all the bills I haven’t managed to pay. That man has a heart. And a soul. Don’t try and lie to me, Mr. Blackwell.”

I backed away slightly, unprepared for the kindness and adoration in her eyes. “You don’t want to know me, my kitten. What you’ll learn will haunt your nightmares.”

“I don’t believe it.”

She was far too innocent for her own good. Damn the woman and how she made me feel. I wanted to push her into the wild, hunting her down like an animal. Maybe that would remind me of who and what I was.

“You asked me what now, Wild Kitty. Do you really want to know, or do you have a suggestion?”

I’d seen the look on her face before, an expression that defied her normal conservative stance and logic.

She was ready to offer another full taste of surrender. Instead of asking for what she wanted, she decided to initiate fulfilling her needs.

Her long fingers wrapped around both edges of my shirt and with a single rough yank, she ripped my shirt open, laughing softly from buttons hitting the floor. “That’s all the suggestion you need.”

CHAPTER 19

Sara

What was I doing? I certainly wasn’t in my right mind at this moment. I was issuing a challenge of sorts, providing Zach with an excuse to make good on his warnings. What I sensed he knew better than anyone was how much his use of certain words and phrases enticed the very dark side of my personality that he’d shined a bright light on.

I was crazed with desire, unable to think clearly about what this could mean. The thought of consequences would always have to wait until after an ill deed. That much I’d proven to myself.

He didn’t seem surprised in the least by my actions, but he wasn’t going to allow me to have control. I’d expected as much. Hell, I’d craved his moves, his control stronger than any man I’d ever experienced.

With a single growl, he gripped both my wrists, bending and holding my arms in front of me as he took a step closer. Even in my heels, I was forced to tilt my head to be able to look him directly in the eyes.

“Be careful what you’re asking for, Wild Kitty. I won’t take no for an answer after this.” His voice was laced with a haunted quality, a touch of the evil festering inside of him. He’d almost shocked me with his admission, but he was embellishing the details. He had to be. If he’d lived that kind of life, he would be incapable of showing any act of kindness. I was certain of it.

“Then don’t.”

The connection we shared was all consuming, transforming what was left of my rational side to a need so strong nothing had prepared me for the tethers already twisting around the two of us. I couldn’t explain the way I was feeling, the almost desperate need to feel his touch and have his cock buried inside. It didn’t make any sense, like everything else.

As the gleam in his eyes changed, I pressed my hands against his naked chest, digging my nails into his skin. The touch seared my fingertips, igniting such a fire in my core I couldn’t breathe.

He lifted me off my feet, my heels falling to the floor as he took long strides toward his desk. Where I’d been rough with ripping away at his clothes, he was an expert at unfastening the buttons on my shirt, tugging the silky material over my head. His eyes were dark, more so than I’d ever seen as he pitched it aside.

When he rolled the elastic of my thong down my thighs, I shivered more from the gentleness he was showing than the act itself. He took a deep breath before pulling the lace to his mouth and nostrils, his eyes closing.

There was a slight lack of control about him. I had a sense I’d challenged him in a way no one else had.

He tossed the panties over his shoulder, using a single finger from each hand to slide one bra strap down my arm then theother. I shuddered the entire time, incapable of taking my eyes off the man.

This wasn’t about romance and what we shared would never be about love. I sensed he had no understanding of what that meant. At least that portion of his story was true. This was about a dangerous attraction that might not know any bounds. I was a fool for wanting this as much as I did, but the need for the man was growing inside of me.

He narrowed his eyes as he reached around me, unfastening my bra. The moment he pulled it away, he shook his head slowly. “Fuck. You are perfect.”

Caustic.

Dangerous.

Insatiable.

The words floated in my mind as he cupped my breasts, taking his time rolling the rough pads of his fingers around my nipples. They already ached, so sensitive to his touch I started trembling.
