FR THO?
Jessa: I’m sorry. Married?
Cass: With a license and a ring and everything.
Jessa: To Wilder.
Cass. Yes.
Jessa: Who has a secret child?
Cass: Who I’ve agreed to stepmother. Also yes.
Jessa: This is mad. Absolutely mental.
Cass: Batshit insane.
Jessa: That bloody liar. All this time and he never told you. I was sure he was going to object at the wedding. He had a look on his face I didn’t like. But Henry spoke up first.
Cass: Is it bad that I kind of wish Wilder had instead? Then I could have maybe avoided the brand of humiliation I ended up with. It would have been so much more badass to have two husbands.
Jessa: lol.
Jessa: Speaking of liars, HOW DID YOU NEVER TELL ME YOU MARRIED WILDER IN LAS VEGAS?
Cass: I knowwwwww. I know. It was our secret, something just for him and me. This one little night that felt like a dream I could keep with me for always. I never told anyone. He didn’t either.
Jessa: This is truly bonkers. I think I’m in shock.
Cass: Same. A couple of hours ago, I was ready and willing to fling my brains out with him like you suggested, consequences be damned. Now? I have never been less attracted to him.
Jessa: I find that hard to imagine lol. There isn’t even an eensy weensy part of this grand plan that’s excited by the prospect of sharing a bed with Wilder?
Cass: I’m not. I’m mad as hell at him, Jess. Truly, this is about that little girl and her wellbeing. It’s about a man and his daughter and my role in reuniting them. Past that, Wilder can go fuck himself.
Amoment passes, Jessa’s text bubble appearing and disappearing as she starts and stops typing.
Jessa: Tell me what you need from me, darling. How can I best help?
Cass: Well, I’m very much stuck in this situation—I can’t get out without knocking over the house of cards. So I think I need your support most of all.
Jessa: Then it’s yours. Starting right now—I’m coming over. How much booze should I bring?
Cass: All of it.
Jessa: haha done. I love you, darling.
Cass: Love you too. See you in a minute.
Jessa:
CHAPTER 13
UP TO YOU
Wilder: So, Ashley’s funeral is in a couple of days. You don’t have to come, but I wanted to let you know.
Cass: Thanks for telling me. Do you want me to come?
