Page 30 of Heal Me

"Yeah," I purse my lips, "I almost did it first time."

"Let’s be honest?" Lily raises her thin brown eyebrows.

"The third time."

"This is already better than half of our group would do," Lily comforts me, I move closer to her and put my head on her shoulder.

"I know that I asked for this internship myself, but I am so tired. This is the third weekend that I wake up at seven in the morning and come home at eight at night."

"You don't have to stay there, tell your mom that you're tired and that's it."

"Actually, it’s very interesting." And to top it all off, my pride will never allow me to say that I'm not good at something.

"Was Danylo helping you?"

"We saw each other two weeks ago, he is probably working different days."

"Yeah, I haven't seen him for a long time either, I heard that he returned home to talk about something with his father." "About what?" I am surprised.

"I don't know," Lily shrugs.

"Do you know his father?"

"Not, personally, but who doesn't know Yaroslav Bondar," she laughs and sips a coke.

I look at her puzzled.

"Amelia, don't tell me you don't know"

"I'm not interested in other people's lives," I shrug my shoulders.

"Yaroslav Bondar is probably one of the most influential lawyers in the country, he owns the largest law firm."

I would never have thought that Danylo came from a rich family. But now I get why, he is always expensively dressed, works in the best clinic and behaves as if everything here belongs to him.

"As far as I know, he doesn’t have the best relationship with his father, maybe something happened."

"Maybe," that's all I'm saying.

"Oh no, we better go, we're having a general surgery lesson, if we're late, this jerk will kill us," Lily looks at the clock and gets up.

I nod and get up too. I hope there won't be any tests today, otherwise I'm not ready at all.

We go up the stairs, I put my head down, thinking about something, I don't even know what. About everything at once. Internship, Denys, friends...

Danylo.

"Hi," he nods to me and runs down the stairs quickly, not even waiting for my answer.

"Hi," replies Lily.

And only now I realise that he didn't even notice me. Didn't even look at me.

I know that today I'm wearing a grey hoodie and black skinny jeans and compared to the other college girls who are wearing a ton of makeup and see-through tops, I look low-key with my "natural makeup".

But. For a moment, my hair looks perfect, my lips are glossed, and my already thick lashes accentuate my malachite eyes.

Not that it affected me in any way.
