4 TELL ME A MEMORY
“You’re glowing, handsome,” Winona whispers from across the table while we’re sorting through the piles of mail that came to the office.
“Get lost.” I slap the envelope she’s holding with the one I’m about to open while my mind inadvertently circles back to the fact that Kai offered to fly me to Nashville. I want to say I’m getting some major sugar daddy vibes from him but he’s literally only a couple of years older, so I’m not positive what other word to use.
“Who’s the lucky girl?” Winona continues to pester me.
“There’s no lucky girl.”
“I don’t believe it for a second,” Val announces from her cubicle, unaware of the fact that I’m not lying.
“You should bring her to the Christmas party,” Winona muses.
Not a good idea.“There’s no girl.”
“Leave the kid alone!” Gin shouts as she steps into the reception area.
Good fucking save, boss,I think, abandoning the mail.
“Dylan?” she calls sternly.
I spin in my chair and meet her gaze.
“In my office,” she says. “Now.”
Val and Winona exchange whispers as I rise to my feet.
“Will you two stop discussing my love life?” I cry out and follow my boss.
“Ah, so there’s a love life after all.” Winona giggles.
“As soon as you introduce us to your other half,” Val says.
I’m very tempted to flip them both off but I’m at work. It would be unprofessional.
“They can be tiresome,” Gin explains when we enter her tiny office. “Especially during the holiday season.”
“Holiday season? We’re still a month away from Halloween!”
