She nodded. "What do you think changed?"

Mitch shrugged. "I don't know."

Theresa looked up at him, then turned to Mitch. "Do you think they found something out from Carolyn? Found documents at her house?"

Mitch shrugged again. "It's a possibility. As soon as I touch base again with my friend, I'll ask if they know where she was murdered. If it was at her home, and that's where the documents were, it's possible they found something."

Marco took a deep breath. "What's the safety plan?"

Mitch nodded. "Police are aware of what's happening. They'll be circling the lot here more often and they have their chatter channels open to more signals. They also know I'm on it here and that you're taking an active role in activities. Jace for his part is open to anything we need him to do. So are Mason, Quinn, and Sid. Though we don't want to involve them if we don't have to. Jace is toying with closing the Sandbar down for a few days until he knows things are safe. But if he doesn't close, he agrees that you two need to stay out of there. For the safety of yourselves and his customers."

Theresa nodded. "Yes. I don't want any more collateral damage."

Marco turned to Mitch and said, "Theresa wants to publish the last four articles and get them out in the open. What do you see as potential threats?"

Mitch looked at Theresa, "What's your plan?"

She calmly explained her plan, and Mitch nodded. "I'm impressed. And I think it's a great idea. Get it out there and get more people to know about it to protect yourself. For once, maybe the internet is a good thing. I may be able to help you further with that. I have someone with connections to a couple of the social media platforms. I'll contact them and guarantee they don't throttle the posts or mark them spam. We'll get more eyes faster that way."

Theresa leaned forward. "Are you sure they aren't part of this?"

Mitch's brows shot up. "I hadn't thought of that."

"I've been amazed at the people who are involved. Either willingly or unwillingly. Depending on the coercion used to get their compliance."

"Well, I guess I'll know based on their answer to this. Then, we'll avoid that platform if we need to."

Marco nodded. "That's a good idea."

Theresa took a deep breath and nodded. "I agree. And in the meantime, I'm going to pour over my documents and see if I can find anything from any business in Blossom Springs. It could be one or more of the new businesses, but that would mean they knew I'd come here or was here. That's unlikely because I didn't even know I'd come here. Not for six months. So, it's more likely that I have some information in the documentation I have here."

Marco grinned. "You're badass."

She laughed and he enjoyed watching her beautiful face transform to the happy face before him right now. She was getting her mojo back. He could almost see her strength growing.

Mitch stood. "Okay. I'm taking off to speak with Jace and tell him what's going on. If we all need to have a meeting with the police, I'll let you know. In the meantime, stay safe."

Marco stood and followed Mitch to the door. "Thanks for coming over."

Mitch grinned. "We'll keep her safe."

Marco locked the door behind Mitch, turned to her, and grinned. "Not that you can't protect yourself. But on that note, do you have any weapons?"

"Yes. I have a nine-millimeter."

"Okay. Anything else?"

"No."

Marco moved to the gun safe in his living room and opened it with the fingerprint lock. He pulled out a small canister in a pouch. Turning to Theresa, he handed it to her. "Pepper spray. In case you need it. Never leave here without your weapon and the spray. Also, your phone."

She grinned. "Yes, sir."

He shook his head and closed the distance between them. "I want you to stay safe."

She smiled, stood on her toes, and kissed him. "Thank you for caring. I want to stay safe too."

"Good. No heroics."
