“Ah, so you want a partner in crime.”

“Yes.”

“Alright. I can do that,” he says easily, and I blink.

“You offer that service?” I ask him, and he grins.

“No, I don’t know anyone who would offer that service, but if you want to stay safe while you’re doing something you don’t feel comfortable with, then I’m your guy. I’ve spent the last week driving spoiled tweens to their tennis lessons. I was just thinking I could use some excitement, so your timing is perfect.”

“Okay…” I say because I’m not sure what to say back to that.

“What did you want to do? Do you have a list?” He asks.

“I wish,” I grumble, and he smirks.

“We’ll make one.”

He drags over a notepad and grabs a pen.

“How crazy do you want to get?” He asks, clicking the pen. “Like skydiving or scuba diving?”

“Does it have to include diving?” I mumble, and he laughs.

“No, we’ll do whatever you want,” he says easily.

“Um, maybe we… I… you can add skydiving and scuba diving,” I say with a sigh, and he laughs.

“What do you want to do?”

“I want to go home, order a burger or some Chinese food, and read a book.”

“We can start there. Have you ever had Indian food?” He asks, pushing to his feet, and I blink.

“Uh, no.”

“Great. There’s a spot right around the corner. Let’s go.”

He places his hand on the small of my back, steering me out of the conference room and out the front door.

“Be back later!” He calls to his friends, and I can only blink as he marches me outside and down the sidewalk.

“What are we doing?” I ask once we’ve reached the corner.

“Going to lunch.”

“Why?”

“You wanted to get food and eat at home. You step outside of your box and eat at the restaurant. Baby steps.”

“I don’t know if eating out counts as something wild.”

“We’ll work on the list while we eat,” he promises as he opens the front door for me.

I look around the restaurant as Kye talks to the hostess, and then I’m dragged to a table in the back and handed a menu.

“How spicy do you like your food?” He asks, and I chew on my bottom lip.

“Like not at all.”
