I was beginning to think something had happened that I didn’t know about. “Did Bree cheat on you with a mechanic?”
He snorted. “That would never happen.”
“Then why are you so fucking pissed.”
He huffed out a sigh. “You know Bowie’s working at the shop.”
“Yeah.”
“Well, ever since he pushed Riley out of the way of that fucking car, all she can do is gush over him. How he put his lifeon the line for her. And get this…he’s a fucking mechanic,” he said, swinging his gaze to meet mine. “Did you know?”
“Of course I knew.”
“So did I, but now she’s amazingly aware of it, as are all the other ladies at OPS.”
“Fucking mechanics,” I muttered, shaking my head. “And you did that whole crash into a door with your head thing for her.”
“You smashed your head into a door?” Spencer asked, his face wide with wonder.
“It’s not like I did it on purpose,” he said, almost like he was siding with her.
“Still, that’s some dedication. I’ve never even given a woman jewelry.”
“And now, just because he’s a fucking mechanic, what does he have?” I asked.
“A kid at home with a wife I love, who loves to look at a fucking mechanic.”
IRIS snorted. “You guys are so insecure.”
“That’s what you say. Just wait until you see Jane looking through the window with her nose smooshed up against the glass.”
“That would never happen.”
I cocked my eyebrow at him. “You wanna bet money on that?”
I never got my answer. We pulled up to the motel and immediately switched gears as Rae stepped out of the room, smirking at us. “Fucking hell, if she has Audrey…”
“What?” Spencer whispered. “What does that mean?”
“It means we’ll never hear the end of it,” IRIS sighed. “Ready to get your balls handed to you?”
“But…she’s only like…a small woman,” Spencer pointed out.
“I wouldn’t let her hear you say that,” I told him as I got out of the vehicle.
My eyes scanned the parking lot for threats even though I knew Rae had already taken care of security. There was no way in hell she’d be out in the open if she thought there was a chance anyone was around.
“So, you lost a client already. You just can’t do anything without me,” she grinned.
“That’s really funny. Tell me you found her,” I said, cutting to the chase.
“Who do you think I am?” she asked, spinning on her heel and heading inside.
I grabbed Spencer’s arm and pulled him inside with us. Rae was already set up, her computer running and her gear spread out on the bed.
“I found your woman on the interstate.”
“Then why didn’t you just give us the coordinates?” Thumper asked.
