“Hands behind your head, right now!” she ordered Zane, the AR-15 pointing at his head.

“Let me see your hands,” she shouted twice at Evan.

Holding his knee with his right hand, his left hand under his body, Evan said, “You blew my knee out.”

“Show me your hands right now!” Maddy yelled again. “Or the next one is in the forehead.”

Keeping one eye on Zane, she pointed the barrel three inches from Evan’s forehead. Looking at the rifle, he held both hands up for her to see. In a flash, Maddy turned the rifle around and drilled Evan with the butt on his forehead. His eyes rolled up as he passed into unconsciousness.

Holding the rifle on Zane, Maddy took Evan’s sidearm and quickly frisked him for other weapons. Satisfied, she turned her wrath on Zane.

As she walked toward him, she said, “I knew you didn’t have the balls to come after me.” While he kept his hands on his head, Maddy quickly searched him for weapons. Finding none, she then drove the rifle butt into his midsection. All of the air rushed out of him. As he started to collapse, Maddy had the pleasure of delivering the hardest punch she had ever thrown into his left cheek. Lying on the ground, Zane had to spit out a mouth full of blood and three teeth and several others were loose. He also had a fractured cheekbone. While he laid there, Maddy angrily kicked him several times in the stomach and ribs.

Suddenly Maddy spun around and dropped to one knee. Seven or eight gunshots had been fired behind her from the tree line. A moment later, both twins came out of the trees pointing the guns they had at the back of the Rover. While Maddy watched, both girls walked to the SUV. They stood looking at something on the ground, then both viciously spat at what it was.

Walking backwards so she could watch the two men, Maddy joined the girls. Lying on the ground with several bullet holes in her was Odessa. Lying next to her was a sixteen shot Beretta 9mm.

“She was sneaking up to shoot you,” Salma told Maddy.

“Thanks girls. I appreciate you having my back.”

“We hate her. She is as evil as that monster,” Abia said.

Maddy took a quick look and saw the girls’ spittle running down Odessa’s dead face.

Evan groaned a couple of times then opened his eyes. Maddy looked at his knee and congratulated herself on the shot. Zane was up on one elbow spitting more blood and teeth. Maddy walked over to him and kicked him, hard, twice more in the side and hip breaking and bruising several ribs. He tried to roll away and she kicked him twice in abdomen and one final, special shot to the groin.

“We gotta get out of here,” Maddy said looking down at Zane who barely moved lying on the ground in serious pain.

Evan’s radio began to beep. She realized the search team must have heard the shooting and were calling in.

Maddy quickly went to Evan and removed the radio from his belt. While she did this, Evan was looking at her.

“We underestimated you,” Evan said.

“Let that be a lesson to you,” Maddy shot back.

“Finish the job, lassie, I don’t want to be no damn cripple,” Evan said.

“Tough shit,” Maddy snarled. “I want you to hobble with each painful step for forty years. And every time you do, think of me. Now, don’t say a word.”

She held the radio up to her mouth pressed the talk button and as gruffly as possible said, “Yeah,”

“We heard gunshots. Is everything all right?” a voice said.

“Yeah, fine,” Maddy replied.

“We found the skis. They were tied together and roped to run with no one riding. What do you want us to do?”

Maddy held the radio to Zane’s mouth who was now lying on his back holding his ribs.

“Tell them it’s you and to keep searching or I’ll put the first bullet through your balls,” Maddy said.

Maddy pressed the talk button again and Zane said, “It’s Zane. Keep searching.”

“Yes, sir,” the voice replied.

Maddy stood up and took two steps back while pointing the rifle at them. She had to get them in the Rover and get out of here. Find a road and worry about where it might lead to later.
