“Yes, my father taught us,” she said.

“Good. Stick the barrel right in his ear. That’s it. The safety is off. Now, if he moves, just pull the trigger.”

Maddy leaned over and whispered in the guard’s other ear. “You may want to lie very still.”

“Please…don’t….” he begged.

“Relax. I’m just gonna tie you up.”

Barely two minutes later the man was firmly secured, and he had a dirty sock in his mouth with a scarf holding it in.

“Okay, which one are you and where’s your sister?” Maddy asked taking the gun from the girl.

“Who are you? What are you doing?”

“I’m a prisoner, like you and I’m getting us out of here. You are?”

“Abia. My sister is Salma. She is across the hall. Can you really rescue us?” Abia asked, real tears pouring down her face.

Maddy put her arms around the girl and let her cry for a minute. When Abia got herself under control, she asked, “Who are you? Where did you come from? Where are we…”

“Sweetheart, we don’t have time for that. We need to get Salma. My name is Maddy. Let’s get her.”

While Maddy watched the hallway, Abia brought a very confused and uncertain Salma into her room.

“We’re getting out of here. This is Maddy. She is awesome and is going to rescue us.”

“Hi, nice to meet you,” Maddy said. “Abia, go to the front door and get the guard. Tell him Salma is very sick and you need help and bring him here.”

Abia came back followed by the second guard. The first thing he saw was his partner lying on the floor. Too late, he felt Maddy’s gun on the left side of his head.

“Don’t blink. Don’t even breathe,” Maddy said.

Abia had taken the rifle from the man who was using only his eyes to see what he was up against.

He smiled, half-turned his head toward Maddy and said, “You think I can’t handle three girls?”

Maddy kicked him behind his left knee and smashed the gun down on his shoulder. They literally heard his collarbone snap. He yelped in pain and went down like he’d been shot.

Maddy knelt on his back, the gun at the back of his head and asked, “How are the girls doing, now asshole? Tie him up.”

While the girls were getting dressed, Maddy found a pen and note paper. With the guards secured she left a quick note for Zane.

Zane/Cal:

I’m armed, I have the twins and I’m on the loose. Do you have the balls to come after me? Will be waiting. You still owe me that dance.

Maddy

When the girls finished dressing in jeans, boots, and warmer clothes, they prepared to leave. Before they did, Maddy got an idea.

“They have jet skis?” she asked.

“Oh, yes,” Salma answered. “We can use them to get across the lake to escape.”

Maddy took a quick peek at the guards and said, “Good idea. Let’s go.”

Making their way through the shadows created by the lights in the compound, the three of them quickly made their way to the beach. Abia and Salma both believed at this time of the night the compound was not heavily guarded. Only one or two in the compound itself. Two, maybe three more at the gate by the road and along the fence line.
