“Hello, Varkul. I would like you to meet Dr. Evelyn Carter. She will be spearheading the research into Orc-Human Fertility.”
His words are spoken in the human tongue — but I can understand them just fine? What trickery is this?
“Ah, yes, I forgot to mention,” he continues. “I took the liberty of implanting a translation chip into your skull why you were being processed into our facility. I thought it would make communication slightly easier. I’m sure you don’t mind.”
Implant? Chip?!
How dare this human?!
“The fact that it worked at all is another testament to orc-human compatibility, which is remarkable! At least, if I am interpreting your angry glare correctly? Yes, you can understand me just fine. Anyway, Dr. Carter. Please introduce yourself.”
The woman steps forward slowly. She places her hand on the communication device.
“Hello,” she says.
Her gentle voice trembles.
“Hello,” I answer back.
She looks at Dr. Kelly with a look of confusion. He slaps his forehead and pulls out a small device that the woman slips into her ear.
She tries again. “Hello.”
“Hello,” I repeat myself.
“Yes, I can understand you now. Uhm. I am Dr. Evelyn Carter.”
“Ev-E-Lyn Car-Ter,” I repeat slowly. A long, difficult name.
“Yeah. Or you can call me Eve. That’s what Maddy does. Sorry, Madelyn. That’s my sister.”
“Eve.”
“Yeah, Eve works. It’s nice to meet you, Varkul. Sorry. Warlord Varkul of Clan Blackfang.”
I can’t help but grin. “Varkul is fine.”
“So, yeah. I just flew in. I’m not really up-to-speed yet about… everything. Orcs. Xavros. Fertility. It’s a lot for me to process, but from what I understand, is that you orcs… do you really call yourselves orcs, by the way? I just need to verify that.”
The human talks quickly, but her voice is a pleasant one.
“Yes,” I say. “Orcs.”
“Okay. Wow. So that’s real. Okay, so, from what I understand, you orcs have fertility problems. And I’m here to help solve that issue.”
Mhm. Yes. She could solve it alright. If she were to just step into my cell, I could have her pregnant in an instant.
Well. Perhaps I would take my time with her first, before I put an orc baby in her belly. She looks she can take a good pounding.
Not like these human males. They are angular. Weak. This woman, though? She is all curves. Well suited for my strong orc hands.
“Agreed,” I say. “We will mate.”
Her eyes grow wide and her face fills with panic. Behind her, Dr. Kelly grins.
I do not like making that small man grin. He has put me in this cell. He played me like a damn fool, dangling the promise of fertile women in front of me to lure me to this prison.
Even knowing the risks, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. The future of my entire species is on the line.
