As we made our way down the grand staircase, my stomach fluttered when I caught sight of Kai laughing with Archer and Theo. As I stood at the bottom of the stairs, his eyes locked on mine. He looked dashing in his tailored black suit, his dark hair perfectly styled. His lips curved into a smile, making my heart beat wildly. Would this man ever not have this effect on me?
Kai extended his hand to me. “You look…breathtaking,” he whispered, his voice filled with awe.
I placed my hand in his, “Thank you.” I suddenly felt shy under his intense gaze.
“Don’t do that,” he whispered in my ear.
“Do what?” I asked, confused.
“I won’t have the most beautiful woman in this room look away shyly. You are my goddess. Embrace it.”
Warmth spread through my body at his words.
I felt my cheeks flush at Kai's words. His hand tightened around mine as he led me into the gardens behind the manor. The space was transformed, adorned with shimmering lights, elegant floral arrangements, and opulent decorations. The air buzzed with excitement as guests mingled, their laughter and chatter filling the air.
Kai's eyes never left me as we walked through the crowd. His gaze was filled with adoration and possessiveness. He wanted to let everyone know I was his. We sat down at the table next to the head table, where Archer, Mila, Cassian and Evelyn King, and another male and female who looked a lot like Archer and his parents. Did he have siblings? Because that gene pool was strong. I would have to ask him later.
There was a clinking sound as the unknown male at Archer’s table stood up, tapping his champagne flute with a fork to get everyone’s attention. The chatter died down as all eyes turned to him. He had the same chiseled features and dark hair as Archer but had gray eyes instead of green.
“Good evening, everyone,” he began, his voice deep and commanding, much like Archer’s. “For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Atlas King, Archer’s older brother. It’s my pleasure to be here tonight to celebrate the love between my brother and his beautiful bride-to-be, Mila.”
Atlas raised his glass toward the couple, an ornery smile played on his lips. “Archer, I've watched you grow from a mischievous boy into the remarkable man you are today. Yourstrength, loyalty, and kindness never cease to amaze me. And Mila, you are the perfect match for him. Your grace, intelligence, and unwavering love have brought out the best in my brother. I know that together, you two will build a life filled with happiness and adventure."
He paused, his eyes swept over the crowd. “Archer, Mila, your love story is one for the ages. The way you two look at each other, the way you support and cherish one another—it’s truly inspiring. I will admit I didn’t expect that my baby brother would be married before me, but here we are. I love you, little brother, and I can’t wait to be a part of your wedding and watch the two of you grow as husband and wife. To Archer and Mila, may your love continue to flourish and inspire us all. Cheers!”
The guests raised their glasses, echoing the sentiment. I took a sip of my champagne, the bubbles dancing on my tongue. Kai's hand found mine under the table, and he gave it a gentle squeeze. I turned to him as my heart swelled with emotion.
As Atlas took his seat, I leaned in close to Kai, my breath tickled his ear. "I didn't know Archer had a brother," I whispered. "But I can see the family resemblance."
He nodded, his lips curled into a smirk. “Ah, the devil of New York City. He’s quite the character. He’s been away on business for a while but always makes a grand entrance when he returns. Archer looks up to him a lot. He’s got a sister, too,” he nodded in the direction of the dark-haired woman next to Mila and Evelyn. Her eyes were gray, the same shade as Cassian’s, but she had her mother’s features. “They are twins.”
I glanced over at Atlas, who was now engaged in a lively conversation with Cassian. They both threw their heads back in laughter at something Atlas said. “They seem close,” I remarked as I took another sip of my champagne.
“They are,” Kai confirmed, his thumb traced circles on the back of my hand.
Archer’s sister stood, and a radiant smile graced her face as she addressed the gathering. “Good evening, everyone. I’m Aurora King, Atlas’s twin sister. I want to echo my brother’s sentiments and express how thrilled I am to be here celebrating the love between Archer and Mila.”
She turned to face the couple, her gray eyes shining with emotion. “Archer, my sweet baby brother, I've watched you grow from a scrawny little thing trailing after Atlas and me, desperate to keep up, into the incredible man you are today. Your heart is so full of love and compassion, and I couldn't be prouder of the person you've become. I’ve been by your side since the day you were born. I’ve witnessed your triumphs, your challenges, and now, your greatest joy—finding your soulmate in Mila. Your love is a testament to the power of true companionship and the beauty of two hearts intertwined.”
Aurora’s gaze shifted to Mila, her smile widened. “Mila, from the moment you entered our lives, I knew you were special. Your kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to my brother have been a blessing to our family. I’m honored to call you my sister and my friend.”
She raised her glass, her voice filled with warmth. “To Archer and Mila, may your love continue to grow stronger with each passing day. May you find comfort in each other’s arms, laughter in each other’s company, and an unbreakable bond that will withstand the test of time. Cheers to the happy couple!”
The guests raised their glasses again, and the sound of clinking crystal filled the air. Kai’s hand tightened around mine, and I turned to meet his gaze. His eyes were filled with intensity, and my breath caught in my throat. Cassian and Evelyn stood to give their own toast, but I couldn’t hear anything while I lost myself in his eyes.
“You know,” his voice was low and intimate, “I can’t help but imagine our own rehearsal dinner someday. You, looking evenmore stunning than you do tonight, and me, the luckiest man in the world to have you by my side.”
A blush crept up my neck. “Kai,” I whispered while I struggled to control my heart fluttering. “You can’t say things like that.”
He chuckled softly, his thumb traced circles on the back of my hand. “And why not? It’s the truth, Haven. One day, you will be sitting there next to me as our friends and family say nice things about us. And all I’ll be thinking is how I can’t wait to rip your dress off of you and have you panting and screaming my name to the heavens.”
My breath hitched in my throat as warm desire pooled in my core. His smothering gaze held mine, and his thumb now traced tantalizing circles on my sensitive flesh.
“Kai,” I breathed.
His lips curved into a devilish smirk. “What, little lamb? Are you wet between those perfect legs of yours at the thought of my tongue worshiping your perfect pussy? Because the thought of you, flushed and wanting, has me so fucking hard.”
I squirmed in my seat, hoping to soothe the growing ache between my thighs. He chuckled darkly, clearly enjoying the effect he had on me.
