I watch him leave and smile softly.
“You, lady, are smitten and a half,” Nora says with a laugh.
I look up at her. “I really am, and I’m not even ashamed of it.”
“He really is as hot as you always said. Good for you.” She sinks to sit on the edge of my bed. “Amelia, I’m so sorry this happened to you.”
“So am I, but...it’s over now. It’s really over this time.”
“I’m so proud of you.” She leans down to hug me. “No more crazy husbands, deal?”
I laugh and wrap my arms around her. “Deal.”
There’s a knock on the door, and she sits up when Case makes his way inside.
“Amelia? I just wanted to stop by for your statement, if you’re feeling up to it?” he asks then his eyes settle on Nora. “I’m not sure we’ve met.” He extends his hand to her. “I’m Case.”
She gives his hand a soft shake. “Nora, Amelia’s friend.”
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Nora, Amelia’s friend.” He flashes a killer smile.
Oh boy.
She giggles a bit. “It’s nice to meet you too.”
He winks and turns his attention to me. “If you aren’t feeling up to it, I can come back later.”
“No, no. It’s okay. I can do it now. Doing it now means it’s over sooner.”
I give my statement then he says his goodbyes, lingering a bit longer with Nora then leaves the room.
She turns to me with wide eyes and says, “That’s the friend who saw you naked?”
“Yeah, that’s him.”
“Remember how I joked and said I would have invited him to join? No longer a joke. I would have absolutely insisted.”
