Page 107 of Broken Deal

Blue

You never brought me the room key!

Me

I know, I didn’t want to ruin the surprise.

Blue

What surprise?

Blue

Ace, answer me!

Blue

Not cool, dude. Not cool.

Me

I’m on my way, calm down, Blue.

Blue

I like it when you call me Blue.

Me

How much have you had to drink?

Blue

Just some champagne, not much.

Me

Enough to be truthful, I see.

Blue

Forget I said anything. Your ego doesn’t need any more of a boost. What was I thinking?

Me

You like me like that.

Blue

Unfortunately…yes. Yes, I do.

“Is closing my eyes really necessary?” I roll my eyes, though a playful smile tugs at my lips.

Lorenzo presses his lips together, already exasperated. I can tell I’m getting on his nerves. I get a little annoying after champagne. And I’ve had enough to be the right amount of buzzed. “Yes.”

“Okay, okay.” I surrender, closing my eyes as his hand gently lands on my lower back. The warmth radiating from it is dizzying, and every bit electrifying as it always is. If anything, it’s heightened now that I get to call him mine. He gently guides me into the room, and though I’m desperate to peek, I keep my eyes closed. “Alright, open,” he whispers in my ear, and the sound alone gives me goosebumps.

I blink my eyes open, and my breath catches as I take in the sight. Soft lights are scattered all around, casting a romantic, golden glow over the room. But what really steals my breath are the delicate, tiny, paper-made purple Madagascar periwinkles scattered everywhere. They cover the entire space—countless and impossibly beautiful.
