“Are you enjoying your night?” he asks as we wait for our drinks.

“Ivy always knows how to throw a party and her home is stunning. It’s goals,” I say.

“You would like to have a home in the country?” he asks, handing me my glass of champagne. He holds up his, and we clink glasses together in cheers.

“Yes, somewhere you can escape from the city. I’m a country girl at heart, and as much as I love London, it’s nice to get out of it every now and again,” I answer, giving him a smile.

“I bet you get to see some amazing properties in the country. Sort of like a try-before-you-buy kind of thing. You can visit allthe different places your clients have in the country and see what fits when one day it’s your turn,” Josh says.

“I hadn’t thought of it like that, but you’re right.” I smile widely.

My phone buzzes in my clutch. “Oh, I’m sorry. Can you give me a moment?” I say, pulling out my phone.

Daniel: Maybe I didn’t fuck you hard enough if you seem to still have the energy to flirt with that boy.

My heart thunders in my chest and my cheeks redden as I look up and around the party to see where he is. That’s when I discover him standing in a corner with his friends, glaring at me.

Rosie: I’m not flirting.

Daniel: Your smile says otherwise.

Rosie: You’re being silly. Jealous?

Daniel: Extremely.

“I’m sorry, work,” I say, turning the phone upside down in my hand and ignoring Daniel because now is not the time.

“That’s okay, I get it. Work sometimes doesn’t stop. Do you like working for Ivy?” he asks.

“Yes. Ivy is an amazing mentor. I don’t think I would be as good of an interior designer as I am if I hadn’t started working with her. She’s a great boss, too. Alex is yours, isn’t he?”

Josh nods. “Yeah, I got an internship with his company last year of university, and working with his team has been a steep learning curve but rewarding.” He grins. If I hadn’t met Daniel, Josh would one hundred percent be my type. I can feel eyes on me as I talk to Josh. I turn to where Daniel is standing and hedoesn’t look happy, but I ignore him because he said tonight we will catch up again in his bed.

“That client seems very demanding.” Josh chuckles.

“You have no idea. Did you come here with anyone else from the office?” I ask.

“Yeah, there’s a couple of people here, what about you?”

“There are a couple of us from the office here, too, but I don’t know where they’ve ended up.”

“I can help you look for them if you like?”

“No, it’s okay, I’m fine here,” I say, waving off his request.

Josh’s smile widens. “Would it be forward of me to ask if you’re single? Ivy and the girls mentioned you were.”

Oh.

How am I supposed to answer that? “It’s complicated,” I tell him.

Josh looks slightly defeated. “Totally understand. Maybe if things uncomplicate themselves, we could catch up for coffee in London.”

Oh.

Wasn’t expecting that.

“Maybe I can follow you or something?” he asks. At least he didn’t ask me for my number so that should be fine.
