Page 29 of Refusing Kendall

One of the girl’s words slur a little as she announces, “They are so fucking hot. All four of them.”

“I call dibs on the one with glasses,” her friend beside her says.

“I’m telling you,” one of them says loudly, “I’m pretty sure the girl that came in with them earlier is with all of them.”Smart girl.

It’s funny that any other time these girls might try to hide their conversation, especially seeing as all they’d have to do is look over to see me. There’s not even close to a chance of that happening in here. It’s entirely too loud to hide any kind of conversation.

“And I think you’re wrong,” says her friend that laid claim to Mav. “She came in with the tall one and has been all over him.”

The word slurring chick retorts, “That’s too bad too, because that’s one tall drink of water that I’d guzzle all day.”

The four of them laugh as the smartest one of the bunch says, “We already know you would, slut.”

I take a chance and glance their way. All blondes, or so they look, standing tall in their various styles of stilettos. If I wasn’t so sure of my place with the quad, I might be more than a little worried. As it stands, I have to fight to keep from laughing as I picture one of them trying to come on to Mav. I want to beg them to try just so I can watch.

“I don’t care,” says the one dressed as a fucking slutty bunny. “What was that guy’s name with the glasses?”

“Maverick,” one of her equally undressed friends replies.

“Right,” she grins. Rummaging through her purse, she pulls out a compact and checks herself out in the tiny mirror, “I’m going home with him tonight.”

Ducking for cover, I wait until I’m out of earshot before I laugh. A few people side eye me like I’ve lost my mind, but I don’t care. Now I truly do begin to search for the guys. It’s just a slow-going process trying to wiggle through the crowd, while trying not to get groped at the same time.

Goose’s head finally appears over everyone else’s. As I get closer, I see a frown plastered on his face. Following his line of vision, I find slut bunny trying to cuddle up next to Maverick as he talks to a guy standing close to him, doing his best to ignore her. Wow, they work fast. My mouth goes dry, but I stop walking before they can see me. Call it a vain fascination, but I want to see what he plans to do.

It takes all of thirty seconds or so of being ignored for the slut bunny to make her move. With him sitting on the arm of one of the couches that’s been pushed against the wall, it’s easy enough for her to slip right between his legs and sit in his lap. He stands before she’s barely even touched him, and his move dumps her on her ass. Right smack in the middle of the guys that were talking to Mav and Goose. They don’t hold back their chuckles as she regains her feet and stomps off in a huff.

A smile plays on my lips. Definitely glad that I didn’t miss that. As I look around, Lucas and Teagan are nowhere to be found. I’ve seen what those girls are capable of, so instead of heading back to Goose, I go in search of my missing two.

I find Lucas first. He’s doing his best to side step one of bunny’s little friends. It looks to be the drunk one that was having problems getting her words out earlier. I don’t feel the least bit sorry for her as I watch her throw herself at Lucas. Literally. Feigning a trip, Lucas has no choice but to catch her. If it were Mav, there’s a good chance he’d have let her hit the floor. As it stands, Lucas is too sweet to ever disrespect or treat anyone like that. Even when she’s rubbing her hands up and down his naked chest and putting her hands behind his head trying to pull him down for a kiss. That’s all it takes for me to see red.

I force my way through people, completely ignoring grunts of pain and insults. As I get closer, Lucas’ eyes lock on to mine. Surprisingly, there’s no guilt there like most guys would have. Just a helplessness that pisses me off even more.

The girl looks over to me as I make it to his side. Her eyes get as big as saucers, and she finally gets her feet under her to step away from him.

“You get a free pass this time, because you’re drunk as fuck,” I tell her with tight lips. “But, you’re not going to like what happens if you ever think of touching him again.”

She doesn’t even acknowledge I said anything as she squeezes between two bodies and disappears.

I start to walk away, and Lucas circles his arms around my waist from behind as he talks into my ear, “I didn’t know you had such a jealous streak, baby. It’s sexy as fuck.”

He grins down at me as I look at him over my shoulder. His lips come down on mine, and for the second time tonight, I find myself wishing we never would have come to this stupid thing.

“Two down, one to go,” I say, talking more to myself than him.

I’m sure he’s wondering what I’m talking about, but he doesn’t ask. Nope, he sticks as close to my back as he can while I walk around to the opposite side of the house. When I finally find Teagan, it’s in the kitchen.

Making himself right at home, he’s sitting up on the countertop, and for a second, I’m relieved that none of the girls seem to have found him yet. However, that’s short lived as I watch his hand move toward someone just out of my line of sight. One of the people, near where the drinks are set up, moves, and it gives us the perfect view of Teagan and where his hand is. I hear Lucas’ sharp intake of breath behind me, even over the music, just as I feel like I’m going to vomit all over the floor. T is simply straightening the strap on the smarter blonde’s costume, but it still feels like a slap in the face. Setting some cups on the counter, she reaches out to put one hand on his thigh as the other plays with the long hair hanging over his shoulder. I don’t bother waiting to and see what happens next. I back up hard into Lucas, and it causes a domino effect as he runs into a couple drunk people. It causes a scene and draws some attention our way. Looking back towards the kitchen, the first thing I see is a very pissed off blonde standing almost exactly where I saw her last. Second thing I notice is T trying to make his way over to us. He’s smiling at first, but when he sees my face it slowly drops into an angry frown. When he starts shoving people out of his way, I duck under Lucas’ arm and fight my way toward the front door.

It opens just as soon as I make it there, and I could seriously cry angry tears in relief. I’m only two steps out onto the porch when someone slaps my ass. With as many drunks around tonight, I’d simply let it pass if it weren’t for the fact that he not only slaps me, but then tries to get a grope in, too. Arrogant fucking prick steps around my side and jumps up on the banister in front of me. I’ve had it with the bullshit tonight. He smirks at me as I pull my fist back and punch him harder than I hit Billy back in Sleepy Pines a few months ago. It must catch him off guard, because he topples over the rail backwards, and some of the people on the porch cheer. The others are too busy laughing.

Remembering that I’m trying to avoid Teagan, I race down the stairs. I’m not sure exactly where I’m planning on going, considering Lucas has the keys, but I don’t get very far anyways.

The guy that I punched off the porch must have rebounded pretty quickly, because it’s his hand that closes around my wrist, jerking me to a stop. I twist around with my fist ready to pop him again, but he’s ready for me this time and easily captures that hand as well.

“Come on, pretty girl. Stop trying to fight me, and come on back inside to have a drink with me,” he says with that smirk still plastered on his lips. He’s worse off than the chick hitting on Lucas inside. Staggering to the side, he almost makes us both hit the ground.

“Let me go,” I grind out through my teeth. As soon as I get one of my hands back, I fully intend to give him everything I’ve got.
