Page 13 of Refusing Kendall

“She’s trying to make sure that it doesn’t spill when she kicks you,” T says making them all laugh again.

Walking backwards away from them, I take a sip from the cup. It’s perfect. Fuck knowing my schedule. If he can remember just the way I like my coffee, then that trumps it any day of the week.

“Damn skippy,” I tag on to T’s joke.

The four of them chuckle as they start to follow me.

“You know, you don’t have to walk me to class,” I tell them turning around and walking the right way.

Goose makes his way back up to my side, “How else are we going to sit with you in class?”

I groan, “You’re not serious, right?”

“If you don’t want us there, then we won’t stay,” Mav says from behind us.

My head shakes, “No, it’s not that. You’ll probably make it bearable, actually. It’s just that the professor thinks that all jocks are nothing more than meat heads that get by only based on their athletic scholarships.”

Off to my right, Teagan fumes, “Well, that seems like an unfair prejudice to me.”

“All the more reason for us to stage a sit in,” Goose says, high fiving him.

There’s no stopping them when they put their mind to something, so I don’t even bother. Instead, I finally pinpoint what’s been on the back of my mind since seeing them. “Oh hell, I completely forgot about the away game this weekend,” I say with another groan. “This weekend is going tosuck.”

Throwing his arm around my shoulders, Goose kisses the top of my head, “It’s only two…ish days. We’ll be back Saturday night.”

I want to throw out my bottom lip and pout like a child, but I don’t give into the urge. No reason to make their lives any more stressful than they already are. I don’t even say how much it’s going to suck to watch their game alone at the house. Then suddenly, it’s like a lightbulb goes off in my head.

“I’m thinking I might go spend the weekend with Ryleigh,” I tell them.

Lucas says, “That’s a good idea.”

T nods from beside me, “Yeah, she misses you, and I’m sure she’d love to see you.”

“Only if you take the Rover,” Mav adds.

I roll my eyes at him going all mother hen on me, but deep down I love it. I just don’t let him see that as I say, “The Malibu works just fine, but deal.”

Goose chuckles under his breath.

“Oh,” Lucas starts, “The trip to coach’s office wasn’t a total waste.”

Teagan backs him up, “Hey, that’s true.” He grins down at me, “We’re going out tonight.”

“Where are we going?” I ask.

T shakes his head, “That’s for us to know and you to find out.”

Memories

Professor Turley’s reaction to the guys being in class with me wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. She’d simply asked if they were supposed to be in there, and Lucas explained they were just sitting in for the one class. It probably helped that Lucas pretty much charmed the pants right off of her. I honestly don’t think her views on jocks will ever be the same after spending time with my quad. They seem to have that effect on people.

“Hello, earth to Kendall,” Lucas says waving a hand in front of my face.

Snapping out of it, I focus on him, “Sorry, what?”

He lets out a short laugh, “It’s ok, baby. Where did you go?”

We made it home a little while ago, and the guys headed straight to the fridge for a snack. Sitting at the table with them now, I let my curiosity get the best of me as I prod them for details on the plans for tonight, “So, where are we going again?”
