"A final word, please, Francesca," the priest interrupts us.
Tim returns. The phone is tucked safely in his pocket, and his arms are crossed over his chest. Our eyes meet. I swear a star exploded and pieces of it landed in his eyes.
"Everything okay?"
"Fine," he grins and wraps his arm around my waist. "Just had some work details I needed to iron out."
Again work? I want to ask what work details. But we’re not there, and all I know is he is involved in customer service. Still, I’m curious. It's after hours, and I don't know how he can just pick up on what needs to be attended to on the phone without looking at any notes or anything. Unless, can he work for the hotel?
"Hi, I'm Tim." I look behind me to see who Tim is introducing himself to. Francesca has a strange look on her face. She looks surprised, and not in a good way. "You must be the bride. Congratulations."
"Very funny." She looks from me to him and back.
I don't know what the hell her problem is.
“Excuse me?”
He flashes a warm smile at her. "I hope you don't mind the last-minute intrusion in your wedding, but I've really taken a liking to your maid of honor."
My heart skips a beat. It probably shows in the way I'm looking at him, because Francesca backhands my stomach with a smirk on her face.
"Is this a joke?"
"Is what a joke?” Is she kidding? “Me? Or the fact that he’s into me?" I ask, pissed at her attitude. Yes, it's her wedding. Yes, all eyes should and will be on her tomorrow, but can't I have a moment in the sun? Don't I deserve a glance from a handsome stranger? She's no better than Corey. "Because out of all the women here, Tim chose me?"
"Bailey, what the hell are you talking about?"
”You know what, forget it. I thought you'd be happy. You wanted me to move on and have some fun, and then the second I do, you're all bitchy and judgmental. Enjoy your dinner. I'll see you at the wedding tomorrow."
Francesca and Tim stare open-mouthed as I stand tall and walk the hell out of there.
Chapter 12
Istorm back to myroom, angry, upset, and alone. I'm angry at Francesca for reacting in a way that brought me back to my time with Corey. She took one look at Tim, saw he was with me, and all but decided I'm not worth it. I'm not worthy to be on the arm of such a good-looking guy.
I'm pissed at Tim for staying there and not leaving with me. Because in doing so, he proved her right.
