Chapter 8

Addison

When my alarm went off this morning, I almost jumped. I’d forgotten that I’d asked Cayden to stay. I never let guys stay over, so when his warm body pressed against my back, I jerked forward, almost falling out of bed. I didn’t have morning classes today, so I wasn’t in a rush, but I wasn’t sure about Cayden, and then there was the problem with my brother. He’d wanted to come over the night before. I’d faked an illness, but now he might show up as a way of either calling my bluff or bringing me soup or something.

“Are you a breakfast person?” Cayden murmured as his arms tightened around me.

“Not really.” I shifted to try and loosen his grip. “I usually grab a coffee on campus or something. Why? Are you?”

“Uh, no. I always choose sleep over breakfast. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t going to deprive you something this morning.” His hand began to snake down my stomach, and before I knew it, he was pushing his hips forward and slipping into me.

“What are you doing?” I tried to push away, but he had an iron grip on me.

“Giving you a proper wake up.” He chuckled. “Now be quiet and let me finish.” He pressed a kiss right below my ear as his hand slipped down to rub my clit.

“You need a condom!” I shrieked as I berated myself for letting him stay.

“Whoa!” he paused. “I already took care of that before you woke up.” He released his grip, slipped free, and sat up. “What kinda guy do you think I am?” He looked hurt, and pissed.

“I just,” I started but he held up his hand.

“You think I’d be careless like that? Seriously?” He stood from the bed, and reached for his shorts, giving me a view of his rubber covered cock. “I need to leave.” He yanked them up, pulled his shirt over his head before running his hand through his hair. “I’ll see ya in class, Addison.”

“Wait!” I scrambled out of bed and rushed after him, grabbing my robe in the process. When I stepped into the living room, Cayden already had his backpack on his shoulders, and was digging for his keys. “You’re leaving? Just like that?”

“Yes.” He gave a quick nod, and threw open the door, leaving me standing there baffled at why I was the bad guy here. After a few seconds, I ran over to the door and opened it just in time to see him slam his car door shut. He peeled out of his parking space and took off, leaving nothing but hurt feelings in his wake.

Cayden

I can’t believe that just happened. I stepped under the hot spray of the shower as I let my head fall forward. I’d gone straight to the bathroom to take care of myself after Addison flipped out on me. The fact that she thought I would do that to her really hurt. My mom always stressed protecting myself, especially after the way my brother treated women. I watched from afar as girl after girl snuck out of his apartment. I heard the fights he’d have with our parents over the way he was turning into my father. I had to admit, there were times I loved it because I could laugh at him but there were other times I hated it. It seemed like every time Aaron screwed up, I got a lecture out of it too. It’s like my mom thought I was him, and that I couldn’t think for myself. I always prided myself in the way I treated girls, but I’ve never really had a challenge before. Addison has been a challenge since the beginning.

At first, I told myself that she probably wasn’t really worth all this hassle, but after last night I know that I was mistaken. The way she responded to me told me she was in to me as much as I was her. Now I just have to get her to admit it. I have to “woo” her as my dad calls it. My mom has other names like “being romantic”, but Dad was always the crass one in the relationship.

After this morning though, I’m not sure how to get through her walls. She’s wrapped up so tight I’m beginning to wonder if last night was just sex for her. Take all of this, and add in the teacher thing and the fact that her brother holds my frat life in the palm of his hands for however long I decide to be a part of Tau Alpha, and I’m screwed every which way but up.

After finishing my shower, I went back to my room to grab my things and go study. I only had three classes today, and unless Addison showed up at the library I wouldn’t see her. I jogged down the steps of my dorm, and began to walk briskly toward the engineering building. I wanted to talk to my heat transfer professor before I had to delve into my next set of homework problems. I’d been doing ok in there, and I got a B on my last project. If things kept going in this direction, I might pass the class after all.

As I was jogging up the steps to McArthur Hall, Will was coming down them. “Hey, Sutter,” he waved as he approached. I couldn’t help but wonder if he knew anything about what happened between his sister and me the night before.

“S’up,” I returned the greeting.

“I’m gonna need your help on planning the Spring Formal this year. You didn’t help with the winter one, so you kinda have to.” He grinned as he stopped in front of me.

“Fine.” I sighed. “What do I have to do?” I stuffed my hands in my pockets, resigned to the fact that I wasn’t going to make office hours today, and instead plan this party.

“We join up with our sisters over at Omega Phi for this one. You need to go see who’s on their planning committee. They pick a theme and all that crap, and we help organize where it’s going to be. Last year it was held at the Marriott downtown. They booked a ballroom and all that.” Will shrugged as he lifted his backpack higher on his shoulder. “I gotta go see my sister for a little bit. You think you could tell the guys that I’m cancelling the meeting tonight? I don’t know if I’ll be back in time.”

“Sure.” I glanced around and shivered as the thought of him going to see Addison sunk in. “Anything I can help with?”

“Nah. I think she’s full of shit with this being sick crap that she pulled on me last night. If I don’t check on her though, she’ll think I don’t care. I think she just didn’t want to help me hide.” He rolled his eyes as he started to walk away.

“Maybe you should stop treating girls like they’re disposable.” I laughed as he shook his head.

“Why would I do that? This is college. That whole sowing your wild oats is a real thing. I only have a few more months until I have to enter the real world and not have a life. You sure you’re really Aaron’s little brother?” He threw his head back laughing and I couldn’t help but scowl. “I mean, do you even get laid monthly?”

“I get laid plenty, and when is none of your business. I don’t share my conquests,” I growled.

“Right. That means there aren’t any, and just so you know, Sutter…you sound like a total chick right now. Maybe you should go to the gym instead of class. Work whatever that is out of your system before you turn into a one.” He slapped my shoulder before jogging towards the parking lot. If I wasn’t so irritated at the moment, I probably would have given Addison a heads up, but after this morning I was kinda pissed at her too.
