Robbie takes notes and then types out a text and sends it.

“Hey, wait. What did you say?” I ask, leaning into him.

“I wrote back,Have a good trip.”

I push out my bottom lip. “Seems a bit casual.”

“Exactly. It’s called playing hard to get. Now, let’s see what Tyler said. He called youbeautiful—”

“Is that too forward?” Maya interjects.

“No, that’s fine,” Robbie says. “He also tells you he’s at work and that he’s thinking of you and can’t wait for Thursday.”

Maya looks to me. “How would you respond, Peyton?”

“Maybe I’d tell him I can’t wait too.”

“How about,I’m looking forward to Thursday night too. Have a good day at work?” Robbie says.

Maya nods. “Perfect.”

Robbie types it out and hits “Send.”

“All right, on to Chef Nash. He called you by your name. Nice. Especially with your memory loss. That’s a good reminder for you. Then he wished you a good morning and asked how the chocolates are.” Before anyone says anything, Robbie types out another message and hits “Send.”

“What did you say?” I look to him.

“I wrote,I loved them and hope you’re having a good day.”

I cross my arms across my chest. “But I didn’t even try them.”

“I did, and they are delicious,” he says with a smirk. “Oh, shoot.” Robbie hands me my phone, closes his computer, and stands from the couch. “I’m gonna be late for work. But we’ll go over this later,” he says, patting his laptop.

“Yeah, Robbie. Get out of here. I have a girls’ day planned.” Maya redirects her attention to me. “We’re going over the boys. Then I have some spa stuff. Your skin is in need of some serious hydration. Thecoma really dried you out. Then I’ve got a bag of junk food because we’re gonna kick back and watchThe Sixth Sense.” She puts her feet up on the coffee table and laces the palms of her hands behind her head.

I glance over at Robbie, and we exchange a knowing look. Neither of us tells Maya that I already watched it. It’ll be fun to “guess” the ending halfway through to mess with her. Robbie slips on his jacket.

“I’ll see you tonight,” he says with a wave as he jogs down the steps.

“Bye, Robbie,” Maya and I call out.

She’s already riffling through the bags she carried in when the front door opens and closes, signaling that Robbie’s gone.

Maya turns to me. “What is up with him?”

I reposition myself in my seat, crossing and uncrossing my legs. “What do you mean?” Personally, I wouldn’t know what is up or down with Robbie because I don’t really know him.

“His change of heart, helping with the whole date-these-guys-again fiasco.” Maya raises a brow. “He went fromNo, not a good ideatoLet’s do a deep dive on each guy.”

“I told you why. He’s trying to prove that he wasn’t attempting to sabotage my dating life to run out the clock on the pact we made.” I get up from my seat and mosey into the kitchen, filling a cup with water. I take a long sip.

Maya pulls groceries from a bag and sets them out on the counter. “Why would he have to prove that?”

“Because I accused him of it,” I say with a shrug.

“You what? How did you even remember that you two made a pact?” She pauses and squints. “Wait, are you getting your memories back?” Maya gives me a hopeful look.

“No.”
