There’s that cursed yet delightful feeling beneath my pelvis again.

However, before he can say anymore, we’re interrupted when Denver and Gwen come running up.

“How’s it going?” Denver asks before seeing that Jack is still in his normal clothes. “Come on, boss,” he says, tapping him on the shoulder. “You don’t have a meeting with Yannis until tomorrow. Go get in your suit and join us!”

When they scurry away, Jack and I remain.

“Well?” I have mixed emotions. I’d love for him to have fun with all of us, but I’m also not sure how I’d control myself with him in a bathing suit—his strong muscles on full display. I might just go crazy.

“I wish I could, but I have some notes to go over before the big meeting.”

“Right.” But then it hits me. “Does that mean more work with Harper?”

He rolls his eyes. “Unfortunately.”

With the others gone, he’d taken my hand again, but I ripped it away now.

“Kayla—”

“You’re on an entire island of people who can speak Greek, but you need to video conference with her… her. Why?”

He opens his mouth but all he can utter is, “I—”

“Whatever. Have a nice day,” I say with bite before walking past him.

He calls after me a few times, but I just ignore him.

Screw you.

Chapter 37

A Glimpse at the Future – Kayla

Itry to have fun on the beach with the others, but I can’t shake yet another disagreement—and about Harper, of all people—I’d had with Jack.

I’m sitting on my towel and leaning back on my hands when Callie sits next to me, her sandy legs being clutched to her chest.

“What gives?”

“Nothing.” I’m thankful for my sunglasses for concealing my eyes.

“Bullshit. Come on. You’ve been in a funk ever since you ran into Jack.”

With the others screwing around in the water. I feel more comfortable confiding in her with them so close.

“It’s just so frustrating. We aren’t even officially dating, and it just feels like thing after thing after thing keeps getting in between us. And guess who that ‘thing’ usually is?”

“Hmm.” She pushes her heart-shaped glasses up and squints. “Let me guess. Does it start with an ‘H?’”

I pretend to be shocked. “Oh, wow! How in the world did you know?”

“What did the bitch do now?”

I pound my hand against the sand between us. “He’s practicing his Greek with her as we speak. Can you believe that? While we were in Morocco, sure. I understood. But we’re in freaking Greece!”

She glares at me.

“Well? Don’t you think that’s weird?”
