“We’re out of time, love. I’ll be right behind you, I promise.”

Gray yanked the door open, flooding the room with light. He glanced out the door. “Oh fuck, he’s covered in blood. I’ll get him. Go, Angel, go.”

I didn’t know who was covered in blood and I didn’t want to know. I ran like Gray told me to.

I reached the side of the building and turned to see where Gray was. He was running toward the car, which had stopped in the middle of the parking lot.

He reached for the car door but it was already opening. He wanted to save whoever it was inside that was bleeding. Why would he want to save one of Foster’s goons? Why would he save someone who had tried to run me down.

Because he was a good man. That’s why.

I had been crouching against the wall, but I stood up thinking I might be able to help.

A funny sound, like a firecracker going off sounded next to me and something jumped up and bit me. I fell to the ground and I couldn’t move my arms. I looked over Gray hoping he would see me, come and help me. Right before my eyes in a blinding rush of light, heat, death and destruction, the car exploded.

White hot heat blew me down. Smoke filled my nose, choking me, and a ringing filled my ears.

Then the world went black.
