The Black Dragon once again stilled, but she could feel that her hold on him this time was tenuous. She needed to act fast or both she and Ky were dead.
Before she could get her next demand formulated and out of her mouth, Kur-Jara spread his wings and a mass of demon dragons poured out of the shadows beneath them.
She had no more power to give, and if she tried it would only take away from her hold on Kur-Jara.
Fine. They could take her. Ky would come for her.
The demon dragons raced toward her, and she covered her head with her arms and curled into a ball. The whoosh whoosh whoosh of the demon dragons running past her knocked her over. Not a single one of them even touched her though. She popped her head up to see what the hell was happening.
The demon dragons surrounded Ky and dragged him toward the black Dragon.
“No. Don't touch him.” Her voice was a harsh screech into the air. “Let him go.”
The demon dragons completely ignored her. She had no control over them.
“Ky, fight back.”
For the first time since she'd landed him with her allure he seemed alert. He thrashed, and his scales shimmered over his body. His talons came out, but he didn't shift.
Had she done that to him?
Ky battled the demon dragons, killing a few before they pinned him to the ground. There were simply too many.
“Your worthless powers are fading. And I grow tired of your bullshit. A Dragon wyvern is not worth nearly as much as a mate to me, but it will be fun to torture him.”
The demon dragons disappeared into the shadow along with Ky.
“Stop. Bring him back. Take me instead.”
Her words met empty air. The black Dragon was nothing more than a puff of smoke.
The light from the soul shard around Jada's neck flickered and died. Oh God. Did that mean he was dead?
She wouldn't believe that. They had a deeper connection than that and she was sure she would know if they had killed him.
It would do her no good to search the area for Ky. She knew they had taken him below. Whether he was in the actual underworld or not, he would be in a literal hell.
Jada turned and sprinted across the lawn toward the house. Steel and Fleur owned more land than she'd originally understood. Ky had flown them to the spring in a moment, but it took Jada twenty minutes of running before she even saw the house. Her lungs and muscles were screaming at her to stop. Her adrenaline pushed her like a drill sergeant to keep going.
She threw open the front door and yelled out. “Help, anyone here? Help, they've taken him. Please, someone help me.” She ran through the house throwing open doors, finding no one.
Where the fuck were Jakob and Ciara?
Had the demon dragons come here too?
She could count on one hand the times in her life she’d been completely alone. When she’d left the coven a little more than a week ago and that once when her mother had died. The hours before Leon had arrived, she’d been scared, but it was nothing like the fear currently eating her from the inside out, like scarabs in a dead body.
She called upon the one person who had been there for her then and ever since. The one who’d provided her with family and protection, kept her safe from bullshit like this.
If she’d just been content to eat donuts and take the taste of the sex and blood her coven coveted, Ky wouldn’t be…
She couldn’t think of what horrors the Black Dragon could be inflicting on him.
Jada smashed a coffee mug someone had left on the table and grabbed a chunk of the broken porcelain. “Bring forth the one who lies upon sleepers, the incubus Leonard, with whom I share the pact of blood and lust.”
She used the raw edge of the broken mug, slicing her hand, letting the blood drip to the ground. “Receive this offering. I give it truthfully and willingly.”
Smoke rose up from the floor and Leon’s form drifted up from the swirls.
