She whimpered, but her release was still out of reach. He gripped her nape, pulling her down as he snapped his hips upwards. There was nothing controlled about the way he pounded up inside her walls.

“Come now. Bathe my cock.” At his growl, her walls began to spasm wildly around his length.

“Chase!” A whimper fell from her lips as she flooded his cock. Amara kissed his neck, and his upward thrusts became damn near punishing. He stilled as the warmth of his release filled her. A blissful sigh escaped.

Chase pressed a kiss to her temple. “You’re pretty amazing.”

“I know.”

Chase chuckled. “Let me take your amazing ass home.”

True to his word, he had them back at her place in no time. The temperature had dropped, and he sent her directly into her house when they arrived. While he sorted out his truck, she took a shower. Chase joined her. Of course, they didn’t stay on task. They eventually got to bed. Despite the hour, the long day she had and their recent activities, Amara didn’t drift right off to sleep. Not with so much running through her mind. A panic settled in her stomach. The starlight date, and even how he spooned her now. Who was it for? No one was around to witness it. This was all beginning to feel so real. Too real.

“I can hear the wheels churning. Talk to me, Sweet Darling.” Unwittingly, he was playing into her fears.

“I think we are losing sight of how this entire thing got started.”

Chase sighed, and Amara had to keep herself from pouting when he pulled away. Soon, the room was flooded with light. He sat up and she followed, mirroring his action. He rubbed a hand over his face. A long yawn ensued. He stared at her as though he was trying to solve a puzzle. “How do you figure?”

“I understand all the affectionate stuff when we aren’t alone, but the other stuff, like tonight. What’s the point of it?”

“Why does it have to have a point?”

She was frustrated about how nonchalant he was about it all. “I don’t think it has anything to do with the arrangement.”

“I don’t see it that way. The more comfortable we are together when we are alone, the easier it is for us when we are with other people.”

Amara supposed it was a fair point.

“Also, agreement or not, we will be sharing a life together for a while. Why not make the best of it? Get along and be friends. We are lucky enough to be attracted to each other. It makes life easier for us, so make the most of it.”

It seemed Chase had it all figured out. Amara wished she felt as confident as he sounded.

“So essentially you’re proposing that we be friends with benefits.”

“Sure, if you want to simplify it that way.”

She quirked an eyebrow at him, urging him for a better explanation.

“Of course, it’s more complex than that. We’ll share a home together and be exclusive.” Ironically, the part she struggled with the most was sharing a home together. Why had she assumed they’d have time apart, and she’d spend time in her apartment above the diner?

A couple of days ago, they were discussing the logistics of their living arrangements. She’d been amenable to the move to the main house on the Sagebrush Hill Ranch. Especially when he gave her free rein and a blank check to decorate it however she wanted. Chase, bless his heart, did not know how expensive her taste in kitchen appliances ran. So she had no intention of using the check.

“I miss the kitchen at Sagebrush. There is so much room to try out new recipes. I guess I can just binge watch my favourite shows on nights I stay over at the diner apartment.”

“Why would you stay overnight at the diner after we are married?”

“For the same reason, I do now.”

“It isn’t going to work. You need to be home at Sagebrush.”

“After a long day, the last thing I want to do is drive all the way out there.”

“No worries, Sweet Darling. If that’s your concern, I can come pick you up.”

“I don’t want to be chauffeured back and forth like some passenger princess. This marriage shit is going to interrupt my carefully crafted schedule.”

Chase gave her an incredulous look before bursting out laughing. “I’d hate for our marriage to inconvenience you. On the days you want to stay at your apartment, I’ll come to you.”
