She grins and loops her arm through mine to drag me toward the sound of laughter coming from the village green.
Before we get there, I pull my bride to another halt so I can kiss her. I fully intend to stop at one—I havesomelevel of self restraint, after all—but then she makes that breathy little gasp that drives me wild.
So I kiss her again, leaving her eyes so glazed with passion that I immediately kiss her some more.
CHAPTER FORTY-NINE
May
By the time we start walking again, full night has fallen. I don’t know how long Aldronn and I spent making out like a pair of horny teenagers, but zero regrets. The hubs seriously knows how to kiss. My toes are still curled.
We round the wide trunk of a heart tree, and a large outdoor space carpeted with rich-green moss opens up in front of us. Yellow glow stones have been strung up all around the buildings that ring the village green and woven into the chains of the Whirling Swings ride that stands right in the center. I kind of thought they were kidding about that, but nope!
Wooden tables and chairs are scattered across the area, and orcs—so many orcs!— fill most of them, already drinking frompewter tankards. Tiny butterflies flutter all around, but as we get closer, I realize they’re not butterflies at all. They’re little pink fae wearing leaf clothes, their wings patterned with iridescent colors.
“What are those?”
“Those are sprites,” Aldronn says. “Whatever you do, don’t eat anything the little imps try to give you.”
“Why not?”
He scowls. “They imbue fruit with a powerful aphrodisiac that can be dangerous for humans.”
“More powerful than your orc seed?”
“Yes.”
I whistle. That’s some really potent shit.
“Hi! Do you like it?” Ashley bustles over from a long table where the other witches sit with their husbands. “We bring all the furniture out of the pub and do pizza nights under the stars any time we have something to celebrate.”
“I love it!” I give her a hug. “What are we celebrating?”
The redhead gives me a funny look. “You, of course!”
“About time.” Starfall trots over and bats both of us with her horn. “I’mstarving.”
“You spent all day in the grazing field.” Aldronn pats her neck.
“Grass is fine, but I deserve oats.”
“You totally do.” I kiss her cheek. “Oats every day, if I have anything to say about it. You saved the life of my favorite person.”
Starfall taps Aldronn again. “See, I told you I liked her.”
A high whistle rings out, and a flock of pixies at least five times larger than the one I know flies into the village green. “Holy shit.”
Most of them head straight for Olivia, with high cries of, “Pizza!”
A smaller number peel off and arrow toward me, the leader I know in the front. He comes to a halt only an inch away from my nose, and my eyes cross as I try to focus on his little face. “Almost Pizza, we are here! We have told the others of the special potato pizza you make for us, and they know we are the superior pixies!”
“What?” a high-voice screeches. A tiny woman flutters over to us, her wings flapping furiously. She hangs in midair, hands on hips, and says, “Wewere the first pizza pixies. We are superior.”
“Allof you are special pizza pixies,” Olivia says, shooting me a look.
“Exactly.” I nod vigorously. “Any pixie who realizes how good pizza tastes is a very special pixie.”
Olivia hugs me, whispering, “What kind of potato thing should I make?”
