“The firefighters got there and my dad was there. He was wrapping me in a blanket, telling me it would be okay. And then the sound, God the sound. The roof collapsed and my dad screamed. He screamed and I knew my mom wasn’t going to be okay.” My eyes squeezed shut, “But he rushed past everyone and still went into the house as it fell down around him trying to save the person who was courting someone else so she could add to our pack. She had been in her nest. The nest that they always trapped her in. It was really her coffin.” I shivered as Paxton made another soothing sound to try to ease me some.

“They sent me to live with my grandparents after that. I was 12. My two other alpha fathers couldn’t even look at me. They said it hurt too much and that I reminded them too much of my mom. So they just gave up on me. Didn’t want me anymore.” How else could I tell him I had become an orphan and that’s why I hated storms? But Paxton knew what I was saying to him.

He could see me explaining who I was and why I was this way between the lines of the story.

“I’m so sorry that happened to you. But do you feel me? I am here with you Sadie and I’m not going to let one bad thing happen to you. You’re safe with me. With us.” And his promise felt real. It felt like I could believe it.

His hands soothed the fear as I sniffed out the memory. The storm raging outside as Paxton rubbed my arms and back, holding me as we stayed awake until the rain started to ease and the lightning drifted away.

We didn’t have to speak. Being together was enough.

“Want to try and close your eyes, princess?” I nod my head as he shifts us. I’m still laying on top of him. Paxton adjusting me so that I can sprawl out on top of him. “I won’t close mine until you’re deep in sleep. Okay?” I nod, reaching out to weave our fingers together. Bringing them to my lips as I drop a kiss against his knuckles. Holding his hand to me like a safety blanket.

Safe.

I am safe. I can sleep. Pax was going to watch over me and it would be okay.

Maybe it is real this time.

CHAPTER 17

SPRINGTIME RED TULIPS

Jace

Sadie drinks an extra large sized coffee. Which can’t be healthy, but I still buy it for her as well as the latte I noticed she bought one day this week. I want her to have whatever she wants, even the small things like her coffee order.

It has to be perfect for our omega.

It’s important for me to show my feelings through caring for the people around me. I want Sadie to know she matters to us by showing her that I notice things about her.

Slipping up the stairs once I have everyone’s coffee orders from the shop. I carefully push open her door and see her bed empty. It’s quiet in the house, no showers running or sounds of people being awake which means Sadie girl did not sleep in her bed last night.

Her clothes are still here so she didn’t sneak out on us. Her purse is still over the chair that we left it on. Which means she’s in someone's bedroom.

Interesting.

I open Cam’s door first and he’s still asleep in bed alone. No sign of Sadie with him in the meticulous bedroom that he keeps.I had been sure she would have been with him since they seem to be on the samewavelength a lot. Closing the door behind me and letting him sleep I head to the next room.

Anthony’s snoring as I push his door open. One of his legs was thrown over a pillow and his ass on full display. Of course he’s naked and cuddled up with something. Not what I wanted to see this morning but at least I know Sadie wasn’t fucking him yet.

When she came out of the bathroom last night, all swollen lipped, with her fresh fucked look on her face I had been jealous that I hadn’t been there to see it. See the way that she looked on her knees for him. After having seen her cum on his fingers just before that, I knew the physical bond between her and Anthony was probably the strongest.

Though, it had been surprising to me that Paxton had been in the room with them.

Paxton.

Sure enough, as I pushed open the door Sadie is asleep on top of Paxton. One of his hands cupped her head as it lay on his chest, another banded around her, his fingers dipped under her panties to hold her ass.

His eyes open, like he knows he’s being watched and they meet mine as he pauses. Looking down at Sadie all curled up against him like a cat. There is a tug of a smile on his lips when he sees her still asleep with him.

I was worried Paxton wouldn’t be on board with this but seeing this reassures me that we’re making the right choice. That Sadie should be with us.

The smell of them together in his room just feels right.

Shifting her carefully, Paxton lays her on his pillows, kissing her forehead as he whispers soft things to help her settle and go back to sleep. As he stands, she shifts into the warm space he was taking up, wrapping herself around his pillow as he pulls the blankets around her.

His bed must smell like her, the peachy musk of her that makes me hungry every-time I’m near her. It makes me want to crawl into bed and join her.
