“What does that mean?”
“It means we’re going to Tennessee.” Paxton supplies like that is the right answer to the question she asked.
And the most surprising thing is Sadie just accepts this, nodding her head and leaning back against Cameron letting him bundle her in to him as much as possible in the small space.
I just want to fix this.
I need to fix this.
And I hope this is going to be enough of a start.
CHAPTER 30
IN THE SHADOWS
Cameron
It’s been a week since Sadie was in the hospital.
We’ve been in Tennessee for a few days now, not that Sadie is doing much other than taking naps. Which at first, I thought was fine because that meant that she was curled up in a hoodie, clinging to me.
The only time that she isn’t with me is for the hour or two a day that she has Teladoc calls with her therapist and the team that is helping her work through things. I’m proud of her for trying to work through these things. Because I know it isn’t easy for her.
I like having her this close to me, this attention that she is giving me feels nice. The trust that she has in me. It means something to me and I love that.
But I also know that she is pulling away from everyone and that everyone is trying to get her back.
Jace tried to get her out to go see the horses but she said she wasn’t feeling good because of her new meds.
Anthony tried to get her to work out with him but she held up her wrist and said it was feeling sore.
Paxton could sometimes coax her out of bed for a bath but that only happened twice so far and he had been a caveman carrying her out of bed to wash her so it wasn’t exactly likeit was by choice.
How he gave her baths without being traumatized was still a mystery to me. The idea of it made me sick. I was debating on having our construction crew redo the house and take every single one out so I never had to see them again.
“Hey pretty girl, you hungry?” Her face peaked out of the blanket burrito she had herself wrapped in as she shook her head, a soft yawn falling from her lips. “C’mon, Sadie love, you only had coffee today.” She frowns at this, shuffling in the blankets until she emerges from her cave.
Her hair in two braids that Paxton had done after her morning bath, just an oversized hoodie that belonged to Jace and a pair of panties that had been packed for her by Anthony. Of course she was wrapped up in my scent since we had been sleeping together all week.
All little pieces of us marking her as ours.
“Can you bring me up something?” She had her fingers heading to her mouth again and I tugged them away.
Jace’s family owned this ranch. Which meant that his brother and his family lived on the property and were often here for meals. His mom lived in this house with his dad so they were around a lot too. But they were supposed to go away soon and we’d have more space here without tip-toeing around them.
Sadie knew this and had felt embarrassed asking if they knew why she was here. Once we told her they knew she needed time to heal she had avoided them.
“Sadie.” She nods her head in understanding, reaching for the blankets but I was quicker than the little omega. Lifting her off the bed, I spun around to the bathroom as she let out a sound of frustration.
The room was connected to the bunk room Paxton and Anthony were sharing. Jace had taken up residence in his old bedroom for the trip. Anthony is in the shower and looks surprised to see Sadie was out of bed.
“I’m going to get you dressed, okay?” She pouts but nods her head, going along with it and not fighting me.
Small win.
“Hey baby bro.” Ant greets her and she gives him a half smile beforelooking back at me.
It reminds me that she trusts me and that even though she didn’t want to do this she is letting me do this because she knows that with me she is safe.
