Faye hummed into the exchange, but after a moment, she broke the kiss to suck in a breath. She gave me a sheepish smile as she met my gaze. “Sorry…I’m still a bit lightheaded.”

Remembering myself, I shook myself out of my reverie and nodded, mirroring her expression. “Right…that’s my bad. How about we go home instead?”

Her smile softened at the suggestion, and she nodded. “Please.”

Without missing a beat, I reached down and slipped my arm beneath her legs while the other supported her back. Easily enough, I scooped her up and started through the trees.

I couldn’t help but laugh at her surprised expression, having not expected me to do that.

“I figure this will be the quickest way.”

Regardless of her healing state, Faye smiled and leaned against me, humming her amusement. “You won’t hear me complaining.”

While I carried her through the woods, heading back home, she nestled her face against the crook of my neck and seemed to soak in my warmth, her features displaying a happy expression.

It felt right having her in my arms like that, and even if I was anxious to get her back home, I took my time moving through the woods, as I didn’t want that comfortable moment between us to end any sooner than it had to.

Chapter 25 - Faye

That huge, excited smile never left Margo’s face the entire day…not while it was her birthday and she was surrounded by more people than she could keep track of.

The backyard was done up with all kinds of decorations, food, and far too many presents, all for her.

Between the family, Beau’s friends, and his pack, the party had plenty of people in attendance to help make Margo feel nothing short of special.

She was a bundle of energy, especially since the guys brought their kids, and others in town were invited for the day. She had more than enough friends to play with, and I couldn’t help but smile at the sight of her running around, enjoying her day.

After she opened her gifts, it was time for cake, and with me and Beau at either side of her, we leaned in and grinned while the candles lit up her awe-filled eyes.

“Make a wish, sweetheart,” Beau hummed, grinning with every ounce of love he had for her in his gaze.

Brimming with excitement, Margo closed her eyes before blowing out the candles, and everyone clapped and cheered for her.

When her lashes opened again, she couldn’t fight the bashful smile, making the two of us laugh to ourselves at her barely contained joy.

“Happy birthday, honey,” I said, taking a small swipe at the cake before I placed the gathered icing against the end of her nose.

“Hey!” She squealed, laughing at the gesture before she tried to reach it with her tongue.

Her giggles caused the rest of us to chuckle while Beau cut the cake and handed Margo a plate. Without needing to be asked, Ethan stepped up and helped plate the squares of cake before offering them to the other kids, followed by the adults.

Freeing him up, Beau moved over to my side while I overlooked Margo happily eating her cake with the other kids. They chattered aimlessly about nothing and everything at once. He handed me a small plate with a smile while he slipped an arm around my waist.

I thanked him and grabbed some of the cake before offering it to him. With a raised brow, Beau accepted the cake, wrapping his lips around the fork while he kept his eyes on me. Once he pulled off, he hummed his amusement at my quiet laugh and swallowed it.

“That was exactly what I hoped you’d do.”

“Lucky for you, it seems our minds are wired the same now,” I mused, taking a bite for myself.

He grinned at the notion, giving my hip a gentle squeeze. “That they are…and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

After a moment of quiet between us, I glanced over at the table where Ethan was still distributing the cake, and my attention was snagged the moment Sydney went over to him.

“Speaking of brains being wired the same…or, I guess, in their case, completely opposite,” I murmured to Beau as I gently nudged him.

Without missing a beat, he looked over at them curiously. “No kidding…”

The moment Ethan spotted her there waiting for some, his lips pulled into a smirk. “Care for something sweet, Red?”
