“If anything were to happen to you out there…and if I wasn’t there, then what about Margo?” I asked, taking a step closer. I put my hand against her other arm and looked at her straight-on. “You can’t risk your life like that.”
Seemingly aware that I was right, Faye closed her eyes and nodded with a sigh. “I know…I can’t do that to Margo. But I can’t sit around and do nothing while knowing she’s still in that dangerous place.”
Letting out a breath of my own, I mauled it over again before reaching a sort of compromise. To help them both, I had to go a step further.
“Okay, what about this?” I began, making sure she knew I was completely serious about the whole thing. “We’ll go. Both of us. We’ll drive somewhere and meet her, then bring her back before anyone even knows she’s gone.”
Consideration moved through her then, and after a moment, she seemed more at ease with that idea. She nodded. “Okay…I can let her know. But what about Margo? We have to leave her here…it’s the safest place for her.”
I nodded. “Don’t worry about that. We can sort it out.”
She let go of a shaky breath. A soft, tentative smile reached her lips, visibly happy about the plan. “All right. I can work with that…let me arrange it with Sydney.”
With another nod of acknowledgment, I returned to moving the food around while she disappeared into the living room and texted Sydney. In the meantime, I pulled my phone out and tapped on Ezra’s contact.
I would’ve asked Miles or the other two to watch Margo, but they were out on the run and were likely hunting to blow off some steam like they tended to when they had the time.
That scenario would’ve been easier, but seeing as the guys each owed me for coming in whenever they needed assistance, I had no qualms about holding at least one of them to returning the help.
As it rang, I placed it against my ear and waited.
The call connected, and I heard his voice a moment later. “Yeah? What’s going on?”
“Ezra…I’m calling in that favor.”
He sounded vaguely hesitant for a moment, then sighed. “All right…what do you need?”
Having a group of alphas with their own problems and conflicts could be bothersome at times, but finally, when I found myself on the receiving end of that help, it all suddenly seemed worth it.
If it meant finding Sydney and winning Faye over as a result, then I didn’t mind calling in for backup. At the very least, I wasn’t about to ask him to show up for a fight. The opposite, in fact.
Chapter 13 - Faye
While I knew Beau was trying to make things work and actively putting in the effort, I didn’t expect him to be so willing to help. I had half a mind to assume he’d tell me just to drop it and that getting Sydney away from Colton’s pack would be more trouble than it was worth.
But luckily, he was fully committed to escorting me to a nearby town. And, of course, I wasn’t going to take that for granted.
If he was offering and making arrangements, I wasn’t going to try to stop him.
I owed it to Sydney to do everything I could for her, as she constantly did for me.
By the time Margo woke up from her nap and we had an early dinner, the doorbell rang, and Beau stood up from the table.
“That should be Ezra and Zoe…” he murmured, heading over to the door and pulling it open.
However, instead of just two people standing outside the door, there were several, all pulling wide, expectant grins for Beau. They were all tall and intimidating in their own way, and given the strength and that notable aura that came with being an alpha, it seemed they were all leaders of their packs.
“…and everyone else,” he said with a sigh, looking at the one in front of him. “I’m assuming Ezra didn’t keep his mouth shut.”
Presumably, Ezra pulled a sheepish grin before helping himself inside while Zoe, who I assumed was Zoe, followed behind him. “I just couldn’t help myself.”
As they entered the house, Margo was quick to find me and cling to my leg while I stood there, confused about what was going on.
“Don’t worry, man. We’re here for babysitting duty,” the blonde said with a wide grin as he clapped his shoulder on the way in.
Beau sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Don’t you think this is overkill?”
“Maybe,” one with scruff said, wearing a wolfish smile. “But we were curious about these two women in your life, which we had no idea about. We had to see what was going on.”
