Page 60 of Demon Found

An allegiance mark.

No. This isn’t right.

It can’t be this I was feeling. Lorelei ismine. Not an allegiance but my mate. Mine. Fuck. My demon rages and my horns burst from my head, curling up and out. Throwing back my head, I roar at the night.

I want her. This is ten times worse than her being a Cuelebre. If she’s allegiance, she’s out of bounds. She’s more unreachable now than before I fucking met her.

A thought slams into me.

This makes Farrell my allegiance too.

It’s wrong. It has to be wrong.

Fuck. This was what I wanted. This is what makes four years away from mi familia acceptable - graduating, gaining an allegiance, ascending. It was always a gamble, there was no guarantee I’d meet an allegiance. And now I have, I should be ecstatic. But this? It’s the last thing I want of Lorelei.

There has to be a way to keep the allegianceandhave her. She’s my walking obsession.I won’t give her up.

With a grunt, I drop sideways into the small space at the base of the monolith. Pressing on a protuberant stone, shaped like a snarling gremlin, I grin wickedly at the thought of what’s to come. The rock moves sideways creating a crawl space. Tucked away down here I have a solution to my frustration. Fight Club isn’t running today but I still have an outlet. Some relief.

“Hey, honey, I’m home.”

A muffled groan charms my ears.

“Did you miss me, Deago?”

I saunter out from the tree line into the weak light of dawn. The rays land on a jogger, lighting her up, making her white hair shine like a fucking angel. Lorelei. My heart thumps an extra beat. The moment she clocks me, she chews on her bottom lip. Concern flits over her face. Her gorgeous gaze catches on mine, and she inhales sharply before plowing straight toward me.Facing things head-on, chica? I like it.

“You didn’t answer my messages. You ignored me,” she says, poking a finger at my chest. “Shit, Chano. Is that blood? You’recoveredin blood. Are you hurt?”

A laugh escapes me. Such a quick change from angry to genuine concern, concern for me. Grabbing her hand, I pull her closer.

“Not my blood, chica. You can check me over if you’d like . . .”

She gapes.

“Stayed up to have a little fun with a pet project. Didn’t take my tablet, so no messages.” I shrug. “You have the same problem I do?”

“Shh! Not here. Wait, I’m a problem, am I?”

Her eyes narrow.

Hellfire, she’s cute when she’s pissed. But she’s right, this isn’t something I need anyone knowing. Not even Alarick.

“You’re my problem now.”

She rolls her eyes, and I can’t help smirking.

She growls. “Andyouare everyone’s problem.”

I want to scoop her up and devour those lips.

“Meet after classes tonight. My room.”

She storms away, glancing over her shoulder once, catching me checking out her ass. I give her a wink, blow a kiss, and turn away, picking up my pace and jogging back toward my dorm. I’ve shit to do. I have to prove myself to Lorelei, and to do that, I need information on Seth.

Our first official meeting as an allegiance was bound to be a shitshow. I should have expected it. My enemy, his right-hand man, and his childhood friend on one side, and Lorelei and I on the other. Except, she seems damn comfortable with them too. If any one of us can be comfortable in the girls’ pokey room.

“It’s unacceptable,” Farrell says, storming up from his chair. He manages two short strides before getting tangled in Naeve’s ball of yarn.
