I blinked, tears pricking the corners of my eyes. “You did all this for me? It’s not an anniversary I forgot about?”

“No, kitten.” He laughed. “You’ve been working really hard, and I thought you needed a little getaway. We’ll go somewhere with the rest of the pack when you have more time off.”

“Thank you.” I threw my arms around him and squeezed. It was more than Rob and Isaac had done for me when we were dating, even on anniversaries. I’d been lucky to get grocery store flowers and a card.

“Of course.” He held me against him like I was precious. “Do you want to open the presents, or should I ravish you first?”

Despite the warm syrupy heat curled through me at the thought of being ravished, I wanted to see what was in those foil boxes first.

“Presents first.” I grinned.

“I was hoping you’d say that.” He tugged me onto the bed, and I sat on the edge. “So… I tried to find the right balance between practical and fun.”

“You could wrap up a stapler and give it to me, and I’d be happy.”

It was true, too. I didn’t want to be a greedy person, but I loved getting presents. It didn’t matter whether it was expensive or not, I loved seeing another person’s ideas of what I would like. It really was the thought that counted.

Luca took one of the boxes and set it to the side. “That one has to be last, but the other ones you can open in any order.”

I picked up a medium-sized box and ran my fingers over the gold wrapping paper, before popping it open and sliding out a slim white box.

It was a new laptop. An expensive, top of the line laptop.

I squeaked. I’d been thinking that maybe he’d got me a new phone cover or perhaps a book. Not this.

“I noticed your laptop is slower, and you’ve complained about the updates,” Luca said quickly. “If it’s not the right model, we can get a different one, but when I talked to the computerperson they suggested this for all the software you have to run for your event planning and also gaming.”

“It’s amazing.” I pulled him into a hug. “You didn’t have to get me a whole new laptop. I would have been happy with a notebook.”

“I know it’s not the most romantic gift.” Luca squeezed me back. “But this will make your work so much easier.”

“Romantic?” I laughed. “Nothing is more romantic than you seeing I needed help with something and wanting to fix it.”

Luca grinned, his eyes lighting up. “I see you and I are going to be on the same page then. Logan and Julian are fine with practical gifts, but it hasn’t always gone over well.”

“Well, they were wrong.” I reached for another present. “It takes more care and concern to know what someone needs rather than just grabbing some flowers and chocolates.”

I looked over my shoulder at the flowers and chocolate on the table. “Not that I don’t love that too.”

“I knew what you meant,” Luca chuckled.

I opened the next present to find a box of planner supplies. The paper was high quality, and he’d bought me new highlighters and stickers to decorate, as well as some felt tipped pens.

“Ooooo,” I squealed. “This is gorgeous. I suck at using my planner though.”

“I know.” Luca leaned over, tucking some hair behind my ear. “Think of this as creativity and getting your thoughts down. It’s fine if you miss some days, just have fun with it.”

“I love that idea.” I set aside the planner supplies and picked up the next box.

Inside was a necklace. A heart shaped pendant shaped from a blue stone strung with a chain of smaller diamonds. It was simple, elegant, and breathtaking. I touched the heart shaped pendant gingerly. “It’s stunning.”

“Couldn’t resist.” Luca looked mischievous. “I saw it and thought of you.”

“Thank you.” I touched the cold jewels. “It’s perfect for events, or dates.”

Luca beamed, looking so pleased with himself. Part of me worried that I had somehow guilted him into this, but when I saw he was so clearly happy, the worry evaporated.

I shifted closer to him. “Will you put it on me?”
